What are the responsibilities and job description for the Urban Field Inspector position at Lee County Mosquito/Hyacinth Control Districts?
Lee County Mosquito Control District is accepting applications in search of an Urban Field Inspector to join our team. The Urban Field Inspector will conduct urban mosquito inspections to include adult and larval surveillance, identifying larval habitat, and conduct mosquito control treatments when necessary.

Essential Functions:
- Conducts urban inspections for cryptic mosquito habitat as part of a disease response plan
- Responds to resident service requests, as assigned by supervisor, by conducting a field investigation, and report findings in MapVision on a Toughbook at time of inspection
- Inspects assigned geographical areas for the presence of larvae, pupae and adult mosquitoes ,and records findings, reporting results in MapVision
- Conducts inspections of tire shops on a routine basis
- Inspects storm water drains for larval mosquitoes and conducts appropriate treatments, as needed
- Recommends appropriate treatment method after completing the field investigation
- Responsible for entering Larval inspection and ground larviciding spray activity in MapVision on Toughbook at time of inspection/spray activity
- Conducts back checks on areas treated, evaluate the efficacy of control practices imposed and enter results in MapVision on Toughbook
- Conducts larviciding inspections and treatments as needed
- Apply adulticide/larvicide treatments in accordance with established procedures and enter data in MapVision on Toughbook
- Assists with the placement and collection of adult mosquito traps, as needed
- Operates a truck trap for the collection of adult mosquitoes, as needed
- Conduct walk around pre-trip vehicle inspection and ensure all necessary supplies and materials are present to complete trip
- Assists with refilling spray trucks with appropriate chemical
- Refills truck with fuel at the end of the shift
- Responsible for completing his/her time card on a daily basis.
- Responsible for ensuring time card is correct and approved by 8:00 a.m. on payroll Mondays
- Documents and reports any mechanical problems with the truck in accordance with established procedures
- Assists with the monthly chemical inventory of the ULV trucks
- Responsible for wearing appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
- Communicates with the public in a professional and courteous manner and refer all inquiries that are outside area of expertise to the appropriate person at the District
- Follow District Safety policies and procedures and comply with all local, state and federal regulations at all times
- Responsible for ensuring all assigned equipment is maintained and repaired as needed
- Other duties and projects as assigned

Qualifications:
- Must be able to work a varied schedule including working nights and weekends
- Must have basic computer skills, including a working knowledge of Microsoft Office, and have the ability to learn and operate internal, web based, GPS and mapping programs including GIS systems and entering data into phone Apps and databases
- Must be able to read and understand chemical label instructions in English
- Must have a valid Class E driver’s license and a clean driving record
- Must pass the CORE and Public Health exams within six months of hire and be able to maintain certification by earning appropriate CEU’s (continuing education units)
- Must be able to identify a variety of mosquito species found within Lee County.

Physical Requirements: Moderate physical activity may be required including lifting, reaching for, pulling, carrying up to forty pounds, reaching and pulling with arms, stooping, bending frequently, standing, walking, riding a bicycle or scooter, sitting for long periods of time while driving a vehicle and climbing over and around natural obstacles and in and out of vehicles and other equipment. Must be able to use hands and fingers to type, and grip and operate a variety of hand tools and other equipment. Excellent vision, both close and distance, is frequently required.
Work Environment: The work environment varies but normally is outdoors or a vehicle and may include office buildings, mangroves, and fields. Regular exposure to all types of weather is required when the position is working outside, exposed to high temperatures and humidity, sun, rain, and wind. Frequent local travel is required. Noise level is usually low but occasional exposure to loud and moderate noise levels when around helicopters and a variety of motors and engines. Working with and around chemicals, which are stored, handled, applied/used and disposed of according to exact labeling instructions, is required frequently. Regular exposure to moving mechanical parts, mud, fuel, fumes and insects is required.
