Southwest Florida International Airport (RSW) is an award-winning, medium-hub commercial service airport that served more than a record-breaking 11 million passengers in 2024 and is one of the top 50 airports in the United States for passenger traffic. Fifteen airlines serve RSW with nonstop service to 70 markets, including Canada and Germany. Page Field (FMY), an FAA-designated reliever airport, provides services to general and business aviation and accommodated 169,000 aircraft operations in 2024. Base Operations at Page Field is an award-winning, fixed-based operator and has been recognized for its customer service and facilities.

Terminal Expansion projects are currently underway at RSW to improve the airport travel experience by consolidating the security checkpoints, adding concession space and providing passengers more amenities and options. In addition, a new Concourse E is being constructed with 14 gates, as well as other terminal, landside and airside improvements.

The anticipated hourly starting rate for the ideal candidate is between $19.20 - $23.04

The Position

The Lee County Port Authority is seeking a skilled and highly motivated individual to join our electrical and mechanical technician team, where you will enjoy a positive and supportive work environment in a challenging and rewarding career in the aviation industry. This role involves maintaining and repairing critical electrical and mechanical equipment in a fast-paced airport environment. You should be able to troubleshoot, problem solve and work with state-of-the-art equipment. We provide all the necessary tools to support your work, have a safety shoe reimbursement program and a uniform program, including optional laundry service, so you can focus on your tasks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot, inspect, and perform preventive maintenance of electrical and mechanical equipment (airfield lighting system, emergency generator systems, fuel adjustment, security fencing, parking lots, and roadway lighting)
  • Install and repair electrical and building systems (energy management; parts and components calibration; electrical and pneumatic/hydraulic systems; concrete and asphalt pavements; and, structure repair)
  • Maintain industrial air handlers, pumps, and HVAC systems
  • Perform basic and finish carpentry to include cabinets, shelving, and paneling
  • Plumbing repair (fixture, septic/sewer lines, water sources, and lift stations)
  • Tile, plaster, cement, masonry work, caulking, and painting, including renovation and flooring
  • Safety compliance

Minimum Requirements

  • Must be able to communicate and follow written and oral instructions in English
  • A high school diploma/GED is required
  • One year of experience as an industrial maintenance technician, HVAC mechanic, or electrician is required.
  • A Florida Driver's License is required
  • Intermediate temporary traffic control (TTC) is required within one year of employment; advanced TTC is preferred.
  • A valid certificate of competency for Lee County or the State of Florida, a journeyman in one of the major building maintenance trades, and/or an EPA Universal Refrigerant License is preferred.

Florida Retirement System (FRS)

The employee has a choice of a pension or an investment plan. The FRS Pension Plan is a traditional defined benefit plan that offers you a guaranteed monthly benefit for life after the required vesting period. The FRS Investment Plan is a defined contribution plan that receives an employer contribution of 8.3% for regular class employees and 16% for special risk employees . Both are employee and employer-sponsored retirement plans. Lee County Port Authority employees eligible to participate in FRS are required to contribute 3% of each paycheck to FRS. If you have retired from the FRS pension plan, please be advised that you are not eligible for renewed membership in either of the FRS retirement plan options.

Medical Insurance

The Port Authority offers two plan choices for all full-time employees, their spouse and their dependents. Coverage begins the first of the month following their date of hire.

Dental Insurance

The Port Authority offers a dental plan for full time employees, their spouse and children.

Vision Insurance

If you are enrolled in the medical plan you and your family are eligible for basic vision coverage through vision discounts. Two more comprehensive plans are offered, including a basic vision plan and a vision 2 high option plan, paid entirely by the employee.

Employee Assistance Program

The Port Authority provides this benefit at no cost to the employee. This is the availability of licensed professional counselors for personal issues with 100% confidentiality.

Flexible Spending Account(s)

There are two types of reimbursement accounts: Medical and Dependent Care. It is optional and allows the employee to have pre tax dollars deducted from their paycheck for reimbursement of medical costs not covered by your plans or child care costs for children under 13.

Life /AD & D Insurance

The Port Authority provides this benefit at no cost to the employee. Employees are insured at an amount equal to the annual salary rounded to the next higher thousand dollars. The AD&D insurance provides additional coverage in the event the employee should lose their limb(s), eyesight or die.

Optional Life Insurance

The Port Authority provides the employee with an option to purchase additional life insurance coverage for him/herself, their spouse and their child(ren).

Short Term Disability

The Port Authority provides the employee with short term disability coverage for him/herself at no cost to the employee.

Long Term Disability

The Port Authority provides this benefit at no cost to the employee. Benefits are paid up to 60% of the employee's salary after being disabled for 90 consecutive days.

Direct Deposit

The employee's payroll check is directly deposited into the bank of their choice.
