Job Description
The Custodian is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and organization of school facilities, including classrooms, corridors, restrooms, and playgrounds. This role is critical in ensuring that our schools provide a safe, attractive, comfortable, clean, and efficient environment for students and staff.
Key Responsibilities
• Maintaining the cleanliness and organization of school facilities, including classrooms, corridors, restrooms, and playgrounds.
• Performing daily cleaning tasks, such as sweeping, mopping, and dusting, using standard cleaning equipment and supplies.
• Cleaning and disinfecting toilet floors, sanitary fixtures, and drinking fountains daily.
• Washing windows on both the inside and outside at least twice a year, and more frequently if necessary.
• Keeping the grounds free from rubbish and performing yard keeping chores as needed, such as grass cutting and tree trimming.
• Reporting any maintenance or repair issues promptly to the head custodian.
Qualifications
• High school graduate or G.E.D.
• Valid driver's license
• Knowledge of the practices, policies, and procedures of the school district.
• Extensive knowledge of the practices, procedures, materials, and supplies used for maintenance.
• Ability to complete work requiring constant attention and understand and follow detailed oral and written directions.
• Ability to operate and/or utilize most equipment/materials, such as saws, drill presses, routers, sanders, etc.
Work Environment
This role requires working in various environmental conditions, including heat, cold, humidity, dust, wetness, and heights. Physical demands include heavy physical effort, lifting/carrying up to 50 lbs., prolonged standing, walking, pushing/pulling, or moving/lifting heavy equipment or supplies. Manual dexterity and mobility are also required.
