Position: Correctional Nurse Practitioner
Department: Lee County Sheriff's Department
Reports to: Jail Superintendent in charge of the Corrections Division
Classification: Part time, Exempt
Salary Level: $50,000-$70,000 DOQ
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Oversee all prescription medication related aspects of medical services provided at the jail.
- Create all Standing Orders and medical Protocols, i.e. standing order for headache, insulin protocol, withdrawal protocols, etc.
- Write prescriptions for all prescribed medications.
- Determine all treatment plans that are beyond the Correctional Nurse's medical scope.
- Conduct medical visits, no less than once a week, for all detainees who require medical services beyond the Correctional Nurse's medical scope.
- Review all medical records for detainees who require on-going medical treatment, newly prescribed medication, or refills of their prescription medications.
- Provide medical guidance upon being called by the Correctional Nurse or Corrections Deputies, when the Correctional Nurse is not on duty.
Hours of Work/Conditions:
The Correctional Nurse Practitioner will be given wide latitude in their function based on the ability to accomplish tasks and to keep others informed of their activities.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) and Master's (MSN) or Doctorate (DNP) degree from accredited Nursing Program
- Valid RN and APRN certifications and licenses, including prescriptive authority, in Illinois
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Proven experience as a Registered Nurse or Nurse Practitioner, preferably in a correctional facility setting
Work Authorization/Security Clearance:
A background check is required for this position.
