Position: English Learner (EL) Teacher and Coordinator

Purpose: The district EL Teacher/Coordinator is responsible for leading the district’s English Language Learner program, ensuring that regulations are met and that EL students are supported appropriately in their academic and language acquisition development.
Qualifications:
- Valid Michigan teacher certificate.
- Hold a NS (English as a Second Language) endorsement.
- Ability to work with other professionals in a collaborative manner.
- Ability to foster a positive classroom environment and build strong relationships with students and parents.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with students, parents, colleagues, and administrators.
Responsibilities:
- Maintains, evaluates, and improves the district EL plan and program.
- Supports students and teachers in language acquisition and strategies in and out of the classroom.
- Facilitates and collaborates with the district EL team to ensure support for K-12 EL instruction.
- Defines and implements co-teaching, pull-out, and push-in support programs for EL students as appropriate (main focus is elementary for the 25-26 school year, focus will fluctuate based on student enrollment).
- Oversees the adoption, implementation, and organization of instructional materials in conjunction with the Curriculum Director.
- Assists the Curriculum Director in providing appropriate professional development.
- Assists school administration in implementing and assigning EL plans and placements.
- Coordinates EL data collection and reporting.
- Maintains records of all EL student and their status.
- Coordinates testing of EL students, including WIDA and state assessments.
- Communicate with the parents of EL students.
- Assists with the translation and interpretation of necessary materials.
- Communicates and assists teachers with SIOP strategies, lesson modifications, and parent communication.
- Member of the district school improvement team.
- Attends other meetings such as Child study teams, KISD EL meetings.
- Facilitates community outreach.
