City Editor Job at Lee Enterprises in Greensboro

Lee Enterprises
Greensboro, NC Full Time
POSTED ON 1/19/2025
AVAILABLE BEFORE 4/15/2025

The Greensboro News & Record is seeking a city editor to direct reporters to cover topics that matter to the people of Guilford County and the Piedmont Triad region of North Carolina.

The goal of our newsroom is to dramatically increase our paying digital audience - our loyal readers! - by giving the 1.7 million people in the Triad the stories they crave and can't get anywhere else.

Our Greensboro newsroom works as one team with our newsroom in Winston-Salem to cover the Triad. The Greensboro city editor leads four local reporters dedicated to covering government, education, public safety and any topics that matter to local folks in the Greensboro area, as well as collaborating with regional reporters focused on business, climate, sports, food and drink, and quality of life.

We're looking for a leader who can work through reporters to grow our Greensboro audience by understanding what matters to the people who live here and what content they want and need, tracking and analyzing reporter metrics, and working with reporters to adjust their coverage and storytelling priorities accordingly. The ideal candidate will move with a sense of urgency, deploy their team to respond quickly to breaking news and trending topics, and make video a coverage priority. They will lead by example and be willing to jump in and create content when needed. The city editor will be laser-focused on digital publishing, obsessed with connecting our content to the largest digital audience, and looking to our digital audience to determine what stories we should be telling in the first place. This person will also recommend content to the print liaison team and design center, letting them focus on our daily print newspaper. Both seasoned editors and journalists with digital-focused reporting or digital producing experience are welcome to apply. We're looking for the right fit for our award-winning team. A valid driver's license and current vehicle insurance is required.

The Triad, anchored by the cities of Greensboro, Winston-Salem and High Point, is a thriving hub for arts and entertainment, growth and development and healthcare. It's home to more than 20 colleges and universities, including Wake Forest, UNC Greensboro, UNC School of the Arts, High Point University and North Carolina A&T, the nation's largest historically Black college and university.
