What are the responsibilities and job description for the General Assignment/Breaking News Reporter position at Lee Enterprises?
General Assignment/Breaking News Reporter – Billings, MT
The Billings Gazette, Montana’s largest daily newspaper, is looking for a full-time general assignment/breaking news reporter eager to cover murder and mayhem, wrecks and riots, and the general hullabaloo found in the state’s largest city. We also need a person to deliver important watchdog journalism to our readers.
Covering the beat requires the ability to quickly file breaking news stories while juggling long-term investigative, enterprise and crime and court stories. We want a candidate who can ask tough questions, dig into trends and find fresh angles to pursue.
We have a welcoming, vibrant and hardworking newsroom, which makes it a great environment for a new reporter to develop their skills and grow as a reporter and writer. We work hard and have fun.
A bachelor’s degree in journalism or a related field is required. We will consider strong recent graduates with reporting experience. Our newsroom prioritizes digital-forward, multimedia journalism, so any experience with SEO, metrics analysis, social media and video is a plus. A willingness to learn those skills is also a plus. Candidates must be able to work evenings, though there is some flexibility with scheduling.
