What are the responsibilities and job description for the Newsroom Internship-Billings, MT position at Lee Enterprises?
Newsroom Internship-Billings, MT
The Billings Gazette, a Lee Enterprises Inc. publication, is seeking applicants for a 10-week paid news internship over the summer.
Qualified candidates should be inquisitive self-starters who are capable of producing compelling content for our digital and print platforms. Interns should feel empowered to find and pitch great stories about our increasingly diverse communities. We want multitaskers who can juggle multiple assignments and embrace all facets of multimedia storytelling. We will provide an atmosphere of collaboration and support for all interns.
Interns will work alongside professional journalists in our newsroom, who will provide guidance, direction and support. Interns will receive customized training on topics such as how to develop sources, how to prioritize diversity and inclusion in news coverage and how to pitch a great story. They’ll also have access to Pulitzer Prize-winning journalists who are part of the Lee Enterprises network of 72 news markets across the U.S.
Qualified applicants should be enrolled in college or be recent college graduates. They also should have either completed at least one previous internship in a media market, or comparable work for a college news outlet.
Exceptional interns will be considered for full-time, permanent employment at the conclusion of the program.
Interns should have their own transportation and valid driver license to travel to assignments and must be available to work a flexible schedule, including some nights and weekends.
When applying, please submit the following items: a cover letter; a resume detailing relevant journalism experience; and five examples of published journalism work.
