[Immediate Opening] Behavior Interventionist

The Behavior Interventionist supports children experiencing behavioral challenges in our general education classrooms. The Behavior Interventionist will provide floating behavior support to classrooms for children in crisis. This position will also be responsible for creating, implementing, and tracking student behavior plans. The Behavior Interventionist will perform classroom observations, provide feedback, and model proper behavior interventions for classroom staff. 


Major Duties and Responsibilities

Student & Classroom Behavior Support

  • Respond to students experiencing behavioral challenges utilizing a Montessori-aligned approach.
  • Model behavior management strategies for teachers and staff to successfully address challenging behavior.
  • Provide Tier 2 MTSS support to students in the form of social skills groups, structured mentoring, structured breaks, or meaningful work.
  • Work collaboratively with school staff to identify students needing early behavioral intervention. 
  • Develop individualized intervention plans to support school-based staff in the implementation of evidence-based behavior strategies.


Recordkeeping and Data Analysis

  • Regularly assess student behavior progress and collect data to track students’ progress.
  • Maintain systems for collecting and tracking student behavior data.
  • Support school teams in analyzing behavioral data to effectively make decisions regarding the implementation of appropriate behavioral interventions, including recommendations about adjustments that should be made in any plans.
  • Contribute to Social/Emotional progress reports of students as required.

  • Promoting Lee’s Core Values and modeling the highest behavior standards for staff and students at all times.
  • Fully participate in professional development opportunities throughout the year.
  • Attend and participate in school events outside of regular school hours.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Requirements & Qualifications 

  1. Have a high school diploma and a minimum of 1-2 years of experience working with children with behavioral support; bachelor’s degree or higher with a relevant focus is preferred.
  2. Possess training and certification in appropriate physical restraint techniques, or willingness to undergo training.
  3. Demonstrate advanced understanding of behavioral principles and instructional strategies for students with autism and developmental disabilities in addition to general principles of behavior.
  4. Demonstrate a willingness to integrate data and assessment with the traditional Montessori curriculum.
  5. Have flexibility and ability to adapt to changing conditions; ability and good judgment to take initiative to modify activities.
  6. Be a self-starter with the demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks independently to completion.
  7. Have strong written and verbal communication skills.
  8. Have the ability to collaborate with general education and special education colleagues, parents, and the broader Lee community.
  9. Have an understanding of public education and charter schools (preferred).
  10. Adhere to a high level of professional and ethical standards.


Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods of standing and walking throughout the classroom and school building.
  • Must be able to lift up to 45 pounds at a time. 
  • Must be able to sit and stand on the floor throughout the day, and bend, kneel, or squat to be at eye level with children.


Compensation and Benefits

Salary starts at $46,800 per year plus benefits based on experience. Lee Montessori PCS offers an extremely competitive compensation and benefits package.
