Position Summary:
The Mechanical Designer is responsible for using Computer Aided Design (CAD) software to produce detailed drawings for mechanical layouts. You will work closely with others to design and coordinate projects from conception to project completion, supporting fabrication and installation.
This position involves designing parts and equipment using SolidWorks 3D CAD software. The Mechanical Designer plays a critical role in the development of solutions that meet customer specifications and industry standards.
Typical work will be done in an office setting with occasional travel to jobs sites to measure physical dimensions for machinery and to observe production lines.
Technical Requirements & Abilities:
- A degree in mechanical or industrial drafting/design, engineering or a related field is preferred.
- CAD software experience is essential, SolidWorks is preferred.
- Experience with all Microsoft Office Programs and electronic document exchange
- Strong mechanical knowledge with the ability to apply engineering principles
- Ability to review and understand contract drawings and specifications
- Able to work well in a fast-paced environment
- Previous experience with fabrication processes or in a metal fabrication environment is preferred.
- Detail oriented with excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Must be highly motivated, proactive, and willing to take on new challenges
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet simultaneous deadlines
- Positive attitude and sense of teamwork
- Work with the design team to utilize time and resources
- Valid Driver’s License in good standing is required.
Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
- Design project parts and equipment using SolidWorks software.
- Prepare technical drawings, accurately and timely, using SolidWorks software.
- Prepare shop drawings with required dimensions and weld symbols.
- Evaluate and select purchased components for proper application, cost effectiveness and lead time.
- Revise redlines per customer requests.
- Oversee the completion of assigned projects, assisting with estimating and project management as needed.
- Prepare parts descriptions for purchase and identification purposes.
- Assist with equipment troubleshooting and provide technical support.
- Travel to job site for measurements and to observe production lines as needed.
- Perform additional duties as requested and assigned by management.
- Maintain and build library of designs for existing and future projects
- Keep up-to-date with advancements in CAD technology and recommend upgrades or changes as needed
- Observe Company policies and procedures; including safety regulations
Work Schedule:
Work schedule is normally Monday through Friday, 40 hours per week. Over-time and weekend work may be necessary due to customer demands and unexpected situations.
