The Lead Communications Specialist position is a specialized civilian position involving the operation of the Police Communications Unit. This position is responsible for coordinating and supervising Communications Specialists in the receipt of requests for emergency and non-emergency services and coordinates the dispatch of resources. Serves as a leader to maintain high morale and high productivity of the unit to ensure assigned duties and tasks are to be performed in an effective, efficient, and safe manner.
Applicants must be able to work day, evening and midnight shifts, including weekends and holidays.

Requirements
- Must be 21 years of age at time of employment.
- High School Diploma or equivalent (GED).
- Must be a United States citizen or authorized alien worker.
- Valid state Motor Vehicle Operator’s License and acceptable driving record.
- Credible work history with moderate experience required; three (3) years of experience as a Communication’s Specialist (Dispatcher)required; or an Associate’s Degree in Communications or related field and two (2) years’ experience.
- No felony convictions or commission of or participation in any felony crime, whether detected or not.
- No on-going or repetitious history of committing or participating in Misdemeanor crimes, whether detected or not.
- Must have or be able to obtain REJIS and MULES Certification within six (6) months of hire. Certified Training Officer certification within one (1) year of hire.
- Knowledge of human relations and criminal justice system.
- Knowledge of Communication procedures for emergencies, natural disasters, and unusual events.
- Knowledge of the geographical outlay of the city and basic communication principles.
- Skills in typing, filing, computer entry and radio communications.
- Effectively communicate orally with individuals that are under duress.
- Ability to speak clearly and distinctly, multi-task, manage stress, and maintain composure.
- Ability to make critical life and death decisions quickly under extremely stressful circumstances.
- Ability to dispatch multiple simultaneous emergency incidents while maintaining status of all units and provide documentation of the status of units.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $24.63 per hour
