The Police Services Officer position is a non-sworn civilian position that staffs the front desk at Police Headquarters. Duties include taking walk-in offense and accident reports, providing fingerprinting services, answering citizen inquires, and providing Police vehicle care. Hours for the position are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; Monday through Friday.
Requirements
- Must be 18 years old at time of employment
- Must be a United States citizen or authorized alien worker
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Valid Motor Vehicle Operator’s License and acceptable driving record
- No felony convictions or commission of or participation in any felony crime, whether detected or not
- No on-going or repetitious history of committing or participating in Misdemeanor crimes, whether detected or not
- Must be creditable witness in Court
- Missouri Notary Public or the ability to become a Notary preferred
- One (1) year law enforcement, customer service or office experience preferred
- Pass a pre-employment polygraph examination
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Performs a variety of clerical duties including check-in deliveries and visitors, filing reports, preparing and distributing interoffice mail, completing the appropriate related departmental reports, delivering reports, distributing messages.
- Responsible for gathering information relating to public offenses by interviewing individuals in person and by phone; determine as to whether incidents are criminal or civil in nature. May be required to testify in court.
- Accurately collect and preserve evidence or property.
- Assists with transporting departmental vehicles to Central Vehicle Maintenance as vehicle service/maintenance requirements arise. May involve operating a motor vehicle under nonemergency conditions.
- Take fingerprints for citizens needing fingerprint cards as part of hiring or background checks. These may need to be notarized.
- Prepares and provides information for the public and responds to public inquiries relating to departmental protocols and services.
- Assists Communication Specialists in the duties of answering telephone calls and/or data entry.
- Enters requests for Police Officers to transport domestic violence victims to the local shelter or provide “Stand-By” duty (accompany to or meet at home to prevent any altercations with other residents).
