Position Description: Mental Health Professional
Division: Human Services
Reports to: Behavioral Health Services Director
Worksite: Behavioral Health Services, Cass Lake, MN
Work Hours: M-F, 8:00am-4:30pm or as needed.
LLBO Status: Exempt
Safety Sensitive: Yes

License/Certification Requirements:

  • Licensure as a Mental Health Professional in Minnesota or Tribal License eligible.
  • Valid MN Driver's License and current insurance or be insurable.

Summary:

Responsible for providing direct mental health services, including psychotherapy, with an emphasis on individuals and families, using various treatment modalities and skills to produce social, psychological, emotional, and spiritual well-being.

Education Requirements and Experience:

  • Master's degree or Ph.D. in Psychology, Marriage & Family Therapy, Counseling, or Social Work and three (3) years experience in the mental health field required.
  • Must be a Licensed Psychologist (LP), Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) required.
  • Must be eligible for tribal licensure within 3 months of hire required.

Additional Qualifications and Skills:

  • Familiarity with Leech Lake Reservation programs and Human Service agencies in surrounding communities.
  • Knowledgeable and sensitive to Native American cultural values, lifestyles and traditions.
  • Knowledge and skill about Electronic Health Record systems such as Procentive and willingness to learn.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • High degree of professional ethics.
  • Native American preference.
  • Able to pass mandatory pre-employment drug test and background checks.

Supervisory Duties:

  • MH Professionals may be asked to supervise, train, evaluate, and provide general guidance to staff from other programs such as Children's Therapeutic Support Services (CTSS), CTSS or early childhood Practitioners working with the DHS Children's Mental Health grant, Targeted Case Management MH Practitioners, Crisis Response Team MH Practitioners, ARMHS MH Practitioners, and others as requested by Director.
  • Supervise the provision of grant related consultation, facilitation, or therapeutic services as required by the grant, following evidence-based practice guidelines as needed.
  • Provide administrative and clinical supervision to staff as assigned.
  • Responsible for ensuring assigned staff utilizes the electronic timekeeping system.
  • Responsible for the approval of work hours, necessary adjustments, and documenting reasons for adjustments in the electronic timekeeping system for all assigned staff.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Completes initial assessment and reviews client history, including medical and family background and related environment.
  • Provides comprehensive DSM standard diagnostic assessment and/or other MH diagnostic assessment type based on need and service (i.e.: brief, extended, etc.).
  • Certified or eligible to become certified to provide DC 0-3 assessments for children ages four and under.
  • Administer psychometric assessment tools for use in diagnostic assessment, such as the ITSEA, MMPI, Beck Depression Inventory or other tools as indicated by clinic policy, state guidelines or evidence-based practice, when applicable.
  • Design or collaborate with mental health practitioner to write individual treatment plans, when applicable.
  • Implement treatment plans, and conduct individual therapy sessions as scheduled, specific to the needs of the client.
  • Documents and maintain client participation and progress using clinic electronic health record system.
  • Participate in client consultations, client staffing, and client discharge planning, and provide follow-up services as needed.
  • Provide referrals for client services to available resource and support services within the reservation and surrounding communities.
  • Research and conduct educational presentations for increased understanding and awareness of children and adult mental health issues within the community.
  • Have training and expertise in infant and early childhood mental health when providing consultation or training to LLBO and other agencies, when applicable.
  • Provide clinical and administrative guidance to staff assigned to work under guidelines of DHS as appropriate.
  • Develop and participate in work groups, committees, state reviews, evidence-based and state mandated trainings and other related activities as guided by grant and/or certified program.
  • Assure that LLBH programs meet state or grant requirements for programs or grants assigned. For example, CTSS certification, federal grants and state grants for therapeutic services would require program oversight and clinical supervision.
  • Participate on multi-disciplinary treatment teams, present client data, review progress, and solicit recommendations for treatment.
  • Prepare reports to determine therapeutic progress.
  • Meet deadlines and prioritize workload.
  • Submit reports as scheduled for the various grants, when applicable.
  • Maintain professional licensure requirements including CEUs and remain in good standing with licensing board.
  • Work effectively with minimal supervision.
  • Understand and be culturally sensitive to Native American lifestyles and values.
  • Maintain consistent consultation with Traditional Cultural Advisory staff to increase understanding and sensitivity.
  • Travel in and out of the state as needed.
  • Maintain a high degree of confidentiality and professional ethics at all times.
  • Adhere to all applicable data privacy laws.
  • Adhere to policies governing staff conduct.
  • All other related duties as assigned.
  • Attend program activities outside normal working hours as necessary.
  • Facilitate supportive consultation to staff in other agencies, such as Courts, Education, Head Start, Health, and Counties when requested.
  • Meet clinic identified caseload requirements and productivity goals, as identified by Clinical Director or Supervisor.

Physical Requirements:

  • May be asked to travel to the outlying LLBO Clinics to provide Mental Health services.
  • Subject to internal working conditions.
  • Non-smoking work environment.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $41.38 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
