Water Resources Technician Il
Division: DRM
Reports to: Water Resources Manager
Worksite: Water Resources Program, Environmental Department, Division of Resource Management.
Work Hours: M-F, 8:00am to 4:30pm, plus some evenings as needed
LLBO Status: Non-exempt
Safety Sensitive: Yes
License/Certification Requirements: Valid MN Driver's License, current insurance or be insurable.
Summary: Perform surface water quality monitoring, data collection, logging and reporting, using equipment and software specific to water quality.
Education Requirements and Experience:
A minimum of AA with STEMs emphasis or AS in Natural Resource Science, Environmental Science or similar degree, or currently in final semester to obtain the aforementioned level of education required or a minimum of one-year experience conducting field work and/or environmental monitoring.
Additional Qualifications and Skills:
Ability to operate a variety of motorboats, rowboats and canoe paddling.
Knowledge of water quality sampling and environment.
Able to trailer and operate a boat.
Familiarity with wetlands and wetland plants and vegetation.
Experience with Microsoft Office and other computer applications (Word, Excel, Adobe Pro, etc.).
Good oral and written communication skills and customer service skills.
Pre-employment drug testing is mandatory for all Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe positions.
Duties/Responsibilities :
Collect data using various water quality monitors at swimming beaches, rivers, and streams, lakes and bridges, and wetlands, often in remote locations.
Participate in the preparation of reports on collected data and field work.
Prepare and present as requested on water quality projects in the community and professionally. Provide educational outreach to the community.
Compile and input field data into databases following QAQC protocols.
Attend and/or conduct all mandatory meetings and trainings as required.
Travel in and out of the state on an infrequent basis.
Maintain confidentiality and professional ethics at all times.
Understanding and sensitivity to Native American culture. Adhere to policies governing staff conduct.
Physical Requirements:
Subject to both outside/field and office working conditions.
Non-smoking environment.
Office work will include: Sedentary work with some standing, reaching, kneeling and bending involved. Outside/field work will include: lifting, paddling, hiking, bending over for long periods.
Ability to drive for prolonged periods is required.
Ability to safely operate vehicles and watercraft in various weather conditions is required.
Ability to frequently lift and carry up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and carry up to 75 pounds utilizing proper lifting techniques.
