Overview:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Assistant Controller to oversee corporate accounting functions and ensure accurate financial reporting. The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in real estate accounting, with expertise in managing financial operations for a dynamic corporate environment. This role supports the Controller and plays a critical part in financial analysis, compliance, and process improvement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Financial Reporting: Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, ensuring compliance with GAAP and company policies.
- General Ledger Management: Oversee the accuracy of general ledger activity, including reconciliations, journal entries, and account analysis.
- Budgeting and Forecasting: Assist in the preparation of corporate budgets, forecasts, and variance analyses to support strategic planning.
- Month-End Close: Manage the month-end and year-end closing processes, ensuring all transactions are recorded accurately and on time.
- Internal Controls: Implement and maintain internal control processes to safeguard assets and ensure compliance with corporate policies.
- Audit Support: Coordinate with external auditors and provide necessary documentation to ensure smooth audit processes.
- Team Leadership: Supervise and mentor accounting staff, providing guidance and ensuring adherence to best practices.
- Process Improvement: Identify opportunities to streamline accounting processes and implement automation to enhance efficiency.
- Real Estate Focus: Manage real estate-specific accounting tasks, such as property-level financial consolidations, CAM reconciliations, and fixed asset tracking.
- Compliance and Reporting: Ensure compliance with financial regulations and reporting requirements, including lender and investor reporting.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA preferred).
- 5 years of progressive accounting experience, ideally within the real estate industry.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting requirements.
- Experience with property management systems like Yardi, MRI, or AppFolio is highly desirable.
- Advanced Excel skills and familiarity with accounting software.
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Preferred Experience:
- Real estate industry experience, including corporate-level and property-specific accounting.
- Background in preparing CAM reconciliations and understanding lease agreements.
- Experience with financial reporting for real estate portfolios and investor relationships.
