Job Overview:
The Director of Accounting is responsible for overseeing all accounting functions, including financial reporting, tax compliance, treasury management, and intercompany accounting. This role ensures the timely and accurate preparation of financial statements, compliance with loan and investor requirements, and the optimization of cash flows. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership skills, the ability to manage multiple projects, and a deep understanding of real estate accounting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Leadership & Team Development:
- Lead and mentor accounting teams, setting priorities and providing guidance to achieve company objectives.
- Oversee workload distribution, ensuring efficiency and accuracy in all accounting operations.
- Provide ongoing feedback and performance development to direct reports.
- Financial Reporting & Compliance:
- Manage the preparation and review of financial statements for all projects and related entities.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, tax regulations, and investor/lender requirements.
- Oversee the audit process, working with external auditors and third-party partners.
- Review and maintain compliance with loan agreements, operating agreements, and financial reporting requirements.
- Manage investor relations, ensuring accurate reporting of capital contributions, distributions, and returns.
- Treasury & Cash Management:
- Oversee corporate and project-level treasury activities, including cash flow monitoring and balance reporting.
- Ensure timely funding of loan draws and compliance with lender requirements.
- Manage banking relationships, oversee account openings/closings, and ensure proper wire transfer controls.
- Monitor cash needs and ensure proper allocation for expenses, investments, and distributions.
- Budgeting & Forecasting:
- Develop and review corporate and project budgets, ensuring accuracy in financial projections.
- Collaborate with executive leadership on financial planning, including revenue forecasts and expense management.
- Track and analyze cash flows, identifying opportunities to optimize financial performance.
- Investor & Partner Relations:
- Serve as the key point of contact for investors, partners, and lenders regarding financial matters.
- Prepare and manage investor reporting, including capital calls, distributions, and K-1s.
- Ensure compliance with financial aspects of operating agreements, including funding obligations and return calculations.
- Operations & Process Improvement:
- Oversee accounts payable, receivable, and general accounting functions.
- Maintain proper document control for financial records, loan agreements, and organizational contracts.
- Implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy in financial operations.
- Oversee corporate expense management, including reconciliation of corporate credit card accounts.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA preferred.
- 7–10 years of relevant experience, real estate industry experience required.
- Strong background in financial reporting, compliance, and treasury management.
- Experience with Yardi or similar accounting software (5 years preferred).
- Ability to analyze financial data, create forecasts, and support strategic decision-making.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage teams and collaborate across departments.
- Knowledge of real estate transactions, loan agreements, and investor reporting.
Salary : $230,000 - $270,000
