Title: Academic Advisor, Instructor for First Year ExperienceDepartment: Burton Center for Student SuccessCategory: Exempt Summary/Objective: Provide Advising services and Instruction and student support services to First- and Second-Year students Essential FunctionsAdvising ResponsibilitiesMaintain a caseload of First-Year advisees and Second-Year students keeping precise and up-to-date records of student academic progress, student correspondence, and meeting contentConduct regular meetings with advisees to track progress, coach through difficulties, effectively communicate institutional standards for Satisfactory Academic Progress, and identify available supportive resourcesAssist students in General Education course registration and scheduling Build course schedules for incoming students and manage assessments for those studentsAssist the Burton Center for Student Success (BCSS) team in participating in Admissions-hosted events such as: New Student Orientation, Move-in, Open House, etc.Provide academic coaching for advisees experiencing difficulty in coursework or generalized life challenges that might interrupt degree completionContribute to assessment and strategic planning for the Burton Center from the perspective of Academic Advising Teaching ResponsibilitiesTeach an 18 credit course load including:Four sections of the Lees-McRae College First-Year Seminar (CLA-199) during fall/spring semestersTwo sections of peer tutoring or other courses in the General EducationProvide individualized academic coaching to students enrolled in CLA-199 to ensure their academic success, retention, and major progressionProvide individualized and proactive advising to students enrolled in CLA-199Adhere to the responsibilities and expectations of the LMC Faculty and Employee Handbooks Supervising ResponsibilitiesAssist in the recruiting and training of instructors for First Year Seminar Contribute to data collection from FYS courses to determine student progress toward Student Learning Outcomes CompetenciesEthical Conduct.Stress Management/Composure.Teamwork Orientation.Thoroughness.Supervisory ResponsibilityThis position is responsible for supervising fewer than 20 student employees of the BCSS.Work EnvironmentNormal office environment where there is no physical discomfort due to temperature, dust, noise and the like.
