Title: Coordinator of Academic Advising, InstructorDepartment: Burton Center for Student SuccessCategory: Faculty/ExemptSummary/ObjectiveThis 12 month faculty position with administrative duties consists of the coordination of academic advising for first and second year students and instruction in the First Year Seminar and in general education.Essential Functions1.     Advising ResponsibilitiesLead the Burton Center for Student Success (BCSS) team in welcoming First-Year students, building course schedules, and participating in Admissions-hosted events such as: New Student Orientation, Move-In, Open House, etc. Coordinate proactive advising services for all students, assisting program coordinators in updating advisors for each academic areaProviding proactive academic coaching for advisees experiencing difficulty with coursework or generalized life challenges that might interrupt degree completion and refer to helpful support services Provide professional development for faculty who are serving as major advisors and for BCSS faculty who are First Year advisorsMaintain a caseload of First-Year advisees and Second-Year students  and conduct regular meetings with advisees to track progress, coach through difficulties, and identify available supportive resourcesAdvise students regarding paths toward Major DeclarationAssist students in General Education course scheduling and registrationCoordinate with Admissions to review transcript submissions and document transfer credit based on transcript reviewEffectively communicate institutional standards for Satisfactory Academic Progress Assist in the production of an annual report and improvement plan for the Academic Advising Center within BCSS2.     TeachingTeach courses within the First Year Seminar in the Fall semesterTeach within General Education or a Content area in the Spring (dependent upon degree and experience)Support the First-Year Experience Student Learning Outcome of 'Developing Personal Accountability'Participate in annual program and course assessment following LMC assessment procedures Adhere to the responsibilities and expectations of the LMC Faculty and Employee Handbooks3.     GeneralSupport the general functions of the Burton Center including tutoring, testing, and accessibility services.Working with the Director of Career Services to integrate career-ready learning outcomes into course learning outcomes CompetenciesEthical Conduct.Stress Management/Composure.Teamwork Orientation.Thoroughness.Supervisory ResponsibilityThis position has no supervisory responsibilities.Work EnvironmentNormal office environment where there is no physical discomfort due to temperature, dust, noise and the like.Physical DemandsThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.Position Type/Expected Hours of WorkThis is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m.Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.TravelNo travel is expected for this position.
