Title: Foundations Math InstructorDepartment: Burton Center for Student SuccessCategory: Exempt, Full-Time, 10-month Summary/Objective This full-time 10-Month faculty position consists of a 3/3 (.75 FTE) teaching load and a 1/1 (.25 FTE) course release for implementing an effective Math Placement Assessment tool, sharing those scores with the Director of First-Year Seminars, and developing and managing a Math Center. Essential FunctionsTeaching for this BCSS faculty position includes instruction in seated SSC-113 courses.Teaching may also be within the Mathematics program as needed.Development of Mathematical strategies and pedagogy that will assist students taking developmental mathematics courses in meeting course learning outcomes.Advising for BCSS faculty includes active office hours and supplemental instruction sessions (for Developmental Math skills) supporting students enrolled in Math courses.Service to the department (BCSS) and the institution includes daily availability to support student learning, participate in BCSS events, encouraging more wide-spread use of all BCSS services—especially Math.Develop and manage a Math Center as an additional support.This individual is responsible for collaborating with the Coordinator of First-Year Seminar and the Assistant Director of New Student Engagement to administer, score, and share Math Placement data for incoming students.This individual represents BCSS in collaborative efforts with the Math Department and Director of General Education to annually review and assess the LMC MATH placement assessment instrument, MATH placement procedures, the SSC 113 curriculum and Student Learning Outcomes, and the impact of the Math Center. Effectively communicate institutional standards for Satisfactory Academic Progress.Assist in the production of an annual report and improvement plan for the Academic Advising Center within BCSS.Participate in annual program and course assessment following LMC assessment procedures. Adhere to the responsibilities and expectations of the LMC Faculty and Employee Handbooks.Support the general functions of the Burton Center including tutoring, testing, and accessibility services.Working with the Director of Career Services to integrate career-ready learning outcomes into course learning outcomes.Competencies 1.    Ethical Conduct: the individual must:Maintain confidentiality regarding student grades and progress and conferences with students and/or their other facultyMaintain and cultivate in our students’ respect for all Lees-McRae College employees, off-campus professionals, and others2.     Stress Management/Composure: the individual must:Professionally collaborate with Lees-McRae College students, staff, faculty, administrators, and off-campus professionalsRefrain from unprofessional or inappropriate behaviors while representing BCSS and Lees-McRae CollegeConfidently and capably de-escalate students in crisis3.     Teamwork Orientation: the individual must:Work closely to align faculty responsibilities and Foundations Math programming with goals and actions of other BCSS team members to promote student success and persistenceWork closely with others across campus to promote student success and persistenceWork especially closely with Math Department faculty and students4.     Thoroughness: the individual must:Attend to details and deadlines in a timely mannerMaintain a current Outlook calendarAttain competency in Microsoft and Brightspace applications sufficient to meet position expectations of timely assignment and grade posting and general communication  Supervisory ResponsibilityThis position has no supervisory responsibilities. Work EnvironmentNormal office environment where there is no physical discomfort due to temperature, dust, noise and the like. Physical DemandsThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Position Type/Expected Hours of WorkThis is a full-time 10-month faculty position. Students in Developmental Education courses thrive when they receive one-to-one, face-to-face interaction. This position requires an individual who is on campus and available to students Monday through Friday. The college's standard hours of work are Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with flexibility to adjust schedules during certain academic periods with approval of the Director.  Rare but occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand. TravelNo travel is expected for this position.
