LRE (Leeward Renewable Energy) is a high-growth renewable energy company forging a sustainable future through integrity, innovation, and positive impact. We own and operate 30 large wind, solar, and energy storage projects across the United States, totaling over 3 gigawatts (GW) of generating capacity.
LRE has an ambitious goal of 10GW of operating assets by 2028 and are developing and contracting an increasing pipeline of new projects every year. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Write/update technical specifications for solar, wind and storage power plant equipment, plant design and technical exhibits for EPC contract documents
- Oversee and manage electrical engineering activities including DC, Low Voltage AC and MV collection system design and ensure compliance with Leeward’s design standards and industry codes and standards
- Review project PPAs for off taker requirements and integrate into Leeward EPC contracts
- Manage OE consultants and support owners review for 30%, 60%, 90%, IFP/IFC for plant EPC design packages and project technical submittals from EPC contractors
- Manage OE consultants and support owners review of solar plant load flow, short circuit, protective device coordination, arc flash, etc., and other solar plant substation related electrical studies
- Provide technical guidance and field engineering support during construction and commissioning
- Ensure that issue for construction drawings and specifications are provided and documentation (i.e., “As-Builts”) accurately reflects the installed facility and is complete for all project work
- Excellent communication skills, including ability to clearly communicate ideas to non-engineers.
- Ability to remain focused and reliable in completing tasks and meeting deadlines with minimal supervision.
- Demonstrated ability to be self-motivated and manage technical projects, including interaction with outside vendors.
- Experience in managing external engineering consultants
- Experience in designing utility-scale (10MW ) solar, wind or storage plants
- Familiarity with utility-scale solar (DC, PCS, etc.), wind and BESS plant design (DC, aux power, etc.).
- Familiarity with MV collection and HV interconnection systems.
- Demonstrated ability to manage priorities in a complex and dynamic environment.
- Knowledge of energy storage inverters and energy storage technology offerings and suppliers.
- Knowledge of solar and wind power plant design and construction standards.
- Basic understanding of industry software such as SKM, ETAP, CDEGS, CYMCAP or other similar software for short circuit, load flow, reactive power, protection system coordination, underground ampacity studies and arc flash studies.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, protection system, wiring diagrams and other common specifications.
- Manage technical aspects of long lead time equipment such as main power transformers, breakers, and capacitor banks.
- Familiarity with latest versions of NFPA & NESC codes and IEEEE Standards:
- 4-Year bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering. PE registration preferred.
- 10 years of electrical engineering and minimum of 3 years of experience in utility-scale solar or wind power plant design
- Position will require sitting for long periods of time as well as occasionally lifting up to twenty-pound boxes.
