JOB SUMMARY


The Therapy Director is an integral member of the leadership team at Leg Up Farm. The Therapy Director provides direct supervision of all Speech Language Pathologists, Occupational Therapists, Physical Therapists, and Nutritionists/Dietitians and related programming activities, regulations, standards of care, and documentation via an EMR system. The Therapy Director fosters innovative therapy programming to respond to the needs of the community while remaining within the scope of practice of the therapy providers. The Therapy Director works on an interdisciplinary team (including the Equine and Mental Health departments) and is expected to work collaboratively, positively, and effectively with his/her fellow members.

Please note: This is a practicing clinician position. As such, 75% of scheduled hours will be spent with the position's assigned caseload and 25% will be specific to administrative/supervision tasks.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Lead regularly scheduled department meetings to update team members on events and policies of Leg Up Farm.
  • In collaboration with the Intake Coordinator, regularly monitor departmental booking of appointments.
  • In collaboration with the Intake Coordinator, regularly monitor departmental productivity and efficiency trends.
  • Mentor clinical staff and student clinicians.
  • Educate department on current scope of practice of department disciplines.
  • Educate department on state and national regulations and guidelines for practice.
  • Complete chart reviews monthly to meet Leg Up Farm, state, and national documentation standards.
  • Coordinate and provide suggestions for continuing education relevant to scope of practice or current interests of the therapists.
  • Coordinate volunteer, shadowing and student clinician intern programs.
  • Work with community stakeholders to educate, advocate, and encourage community connections.
  • Manage the fiscal resources through assisting in budget creation, implementation, inventory and submission of purchase requests specific to therapy resources and supplies.
  • Schedule in-services and training opportunities for therapy staff enrichment.
  • Establish and maintain good communications and relations with clients/families receiving therapy services.
  • Assist in the management of the Electronic Medical Record System.
  • Facilitate quality improvement planning within the department.
  • Propose and implement new programming which promotes the mission of Leg Up Farm.
  • Organize and maintain treatment spaces.
  • Perform all aspects of general supervisory duties including, but not limited to, participating in the recruiting process of new employees, training employees on work procedures, approving time off requests, evaluating employees' work performance by providing regular and timely feedback, and conducting effective scheduled performance evaluations within established guidelines; set challenging yet achievable goals tailored for each staff member.
  • Supervise departmental volunteers and student clinicians.
  • Oversee outside therapy/equipment vendors and contractors performing work at the site.
  • Evaluate clients with standardized testing materials, client report, parental/guardian report, teacher report, and clinical observations to determine current level of function, areas of impairment, strengths, and developmental age appropriateness.
  • Create individualized plan of care that is client centered, functional, and measurable.
  • Customize individualized therapeutic sessions for the achievement of the current treatment plan in individual sessions.
  • Complete accurate billing for all services provided in accordance with Leg Up Farm policy.
  • Track and document client progression towards established goals in accordance to Leg Up Farm and state policy.
  • Communicate client progression with parent/guardian, interdisciplinary team, and primary care physician in compliance with Leg Up Farm and state policy.
  • Demonstrate sensitivity to cross cultural issues.
  • Review and update treatment plans on a regular basis in accordance with Leg Up Farm and state policy.
  • Report incidents and complete Leg Up Farm documentation to supervisor.
  • Report any incidents of mandated reporting to appropriate channels
  • Follow the guidelines of universal precautions and good work ergonomics.
  • Complete re-evaluation reports as indicated.
Requirements:

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

  • Master’s or higher therapist from an accredited academic institution
  • PA state license as a therapist
  • 5 years of outpatient therapy management, pediatrics preferred
  • Completion of new staff orientation trainings
  • National Board Certification for therapy discipline
  • Mandated Reporting and Child Abuse Training
  • First Aid & CPR/AED Certification
  • Current State Child Abuse History Clearance
  • Current State Police Record Check
  • Current Federal Criminal History Background Check (FBI Fingerprinting)
  • Compliance with drug testing & satisfactory drug testing results
  • Initial PPD testing
  • Initial physical exam
  • Valid PA Driver’s License; proof of automobile registration and required Insurance
  • Knowledge of scope of practice for outpatient rehabilitation services
  • Knowledge of scope of practice for school-based related services
  • Knowledge of Leg Up Farm policies and procedures and the ability to ensure proper implementation.
  • Solid knowledge of PA state practice acts for each discipline
  • Solid knowledge of National organization stance on scope of practice and current practice trends
  • Solid knowledge of pediatric development
  • Solid knowledge of insurance reimbursement system
  • Intermediate computer literacy kills including word processing, spreadsheets, and emails
  • Basic mathematic skills
  • Ability to utilize and implement various modalities of treatment which meet the needs of the client populations
  • Leadership skills in delegation of duties
  • High level of organizational skills
  • Highly detail-oriented, able to work independently, multi-task, enjoy interfacing with other staff at all levels
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from clients, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.

WORKING CONDITIONS

This position requires work to be performed in a variety of settings located on the campus including the outside of the physical building. The employee may be exposed to hot or cold temperatures depending on the weather and time of year. They may be exposed to various temperatures of water outside in the Koi pond and inside in the therapy pool. This position is subject to a number of inherent risks associated with equine activities. There is potential exposure to the dander of animals.

This position requires the ability to sit, crawl, stand, walk, run, navigate stairs, bend, and lift 20 pounds. At times there may be the need to perform passive restraints. This position requires the ability to verbally communicate, heat, and type on a computer. Occasional exposure to loud noises from clients, animals, and equipment is present.

This position is subject to a number of inherent risks associated with pediatric services which is not limited to bites, kicks, scratches, and hits.
