The Senior Biologist/Scientist will assist in environmental work in support of projects in the markets which CESO serves. This position requires the ability to lead significant field surveys and sampling events and involves ability to design complex wetland and stream mitigation. Additionally, the Senior Biologist/Scientist will prepare technically sound reports requiring little report core modification (structure, general content) from senior technical personnel. This position requires an interest in strong technical skills as well as mentorship for junior staff.
\n- Performing or overseeing wetland delineations, stream assessments, threatened or endangered species habitat assessments and environmental sampling, designing wetland and stream mitigation or restoration, researching the history of various types of properties, preparing graphs and maps, and writing clear, concise field notes and reports under the supervision of an Environmental Project Manager
- Travel to client/project locations throughout CESO’s operating areas to perform biological field surveys and data collection and interact with both clients and the regulatory community
- Knowledge of ecosystems within the continental US
- Ability to create permitting strategy and make design recommendations to streamline environmental permitting
- Experience with state and federal environmental regulations including stream and wetland permitting, as well as the Endangered Species Act, National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act, Section 401/404 of the Clean Water Act, and state water quality standards.
- Experience in the preparation of technical reports including permit documents, biological assessments, jurisdictional delineations, monitoring reports, technical reports and/or memorandums
- Knowledge of USFWS, USACE, and state jurisdictional agency habitat survey protocols.
- Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing with team members, clients, staff, and agencies
- Strong writing skills are required
- Ability to coordinate and principally self-direct assigned field investigation tasks, and project deliverables
- Ability to understand complex issues and regulatory pathways, and assist with the cost, benefit, and risk assessments
- Experience with the oil and gas industries is a plus
- Ability to execute several projects simultaneously
- Work in a multi-discipline team context
- Demonstrate the ability to prioritize work and multitask as required
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Bachelor's degree required in biology, wildlife ecology, wetland ecology, botany, biogeography, geology, environmental science or engineering, or similar environmental discipline
- 7-10 years of relevant work experience in environmental consulting or with regulatory agencies or a master’s degree in biology/geology/environmental sciences or other biology-related discipline can substitute up to two years of work experience
- Wetland delineation and permitting experience, including knowledge of wetland delineation protocols
- GPS handheld device and mapping experience preferred
- Moderate GIS capabilities
- Experience with EPA’s Rapid Bioassessment Protocols
- Water sampling experience and familiar with water chemistry
- Excellent written communication skills required
- Must be detail oriented and possess excellent follow up skills
- Working knowledge of computer application software (training will be provided if needed)
- Must be flexible and able to work overtime when required
- Must be organized and work well with constant priority changes
- Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision
- Strong verbal, analytical, and interpersonal skills.
