Legacy Behavioral Health Services is hiring individuals with a passion for making a difference in their community! We are seeking a Charge Nurse to work in our Behavioral Health Crisis Center (BHCC) in Valdosta Georgia. Under the supervision of the Behavioral Health Crisis Center (BHCC) Director and/or BHCC Nurse Manager, the Charge Nurse coordinates & supervises the patient care team on an assigned work shift. The Charge Nurse (CN) is responsible for: daily operation of the assigned unit (s), supervision & assignment of all patient care team members. The Charge Nurse assesses the overall needs of the unit related to patient acuity & staffing and coordinates with the BHCC Director & Nursing Manager. The Charge Nurse collaborates with the Nursing leadership for participation in quality improvement, assists with the assessment of educational opportunities, and provides hands-on patient care coaching. The Charge Nurse is responsible to meet all, but not to perform on a daily basis, job duties as outlined in their respective unit Registered Nurse job description, when required by patient or unit needs, as well as those listed in this job description. As well as all other duties as assigned.

This position requires:
Must have a current Georgia RN license.
BSN; preferred
3 years minimum experience in psychiatric nursing; required
1 year experience in a nursing leadership role, preferred.
Being able to balance administrative tasks and clinical care is an important skill for nurses in this position. Many charge nurses direct other nurses on patient care, providing guidance and advice. As shift managers, charge nurses may be required to document and evaluate the performance of the nurses under their supervision. Some charge nurses may assist in developing and implementing educational programs for other nurses and staff.
Excellent leadership, communication and interpersonal skills are critical for charge nurses to be successful. They are expected to motivate and lead their nursing staff, which requires that they are able to work effectively with different personalities. Charge nurses should have the knowledge and experience to answer staff and patient questions on a wide range of topics. Since charge nurses are required to prepare reports on patient progress and staff performance, strong written communication skills are essential.

Must be CPR and First Aid certified or to obtain certification. Must be physically able to perform CPR
Must be proficient in verbal and written communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and critical thinking
Must be able to identify and report any adverse side effects of medication to the physician
Must have excellent time management and critical thinking skills
Individuals in this position must be able to maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA regulations
Coordinating staffing positions in the case of call-ins, short staffing or in order to meet consumers needs and acuity.
Full knowledge of medication administration, medication dispense, and EMAR procedures.
Knowledge of Crisis Service Center (CSC) operations and functions. Able to work the CSC in the absence of the RN Intake Coordinator.
