Job Description

Legacy Behavioral Health Services is hiring individuals with a passion for making a difference in their community! We are seeking a Peer Specialist to work in our Behavioral Health Crisis Center (BHCC) in Valdosta, Georgia. Under general supervision of peer services and dedicated program, provides peer support services to program in the form of group facilitation and one-on-one peer support. Performs a wide range of tasks to assist peers in regaining control over their own lives and over their recovery process including advocacy, providing resources to connect with other peers, WRAP plan development, and use of lived experience and personal recovery story. Functions as a role model of maintaining recovery and ongoing utilization of wellness and recovery tools. Monitors peer progress towards treatment goals. Extensive documentation required; accurately charts services and peer progress. Participates in staffing/planning sessions and offers a Peer perspective on treatment.

This position requires:
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Associate Degree in field of human services preferred
  • Eligible for Certification as a Peer Specialist or Certified Addiction Recovery Empowerment Specialist by the state of Georgia and obtain certification within 6 months of hire. Must have a good working knowledge of computers, including Microsoft Office.
  • Utilizes discretion in handling the organization’s confidential information and consumer-protected information. Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Must have a valid driver’s license Must have a Mental Health and/or Substance Use Diagnosis
  • Must have received at least one year of active treatment and currently be receiving only maintenance treatment (psychiatrist, therapy, and support groups such as AA, NA) Must be in recovery, clean and sober, for at least 2 years
  • No incarceration or law enforcement involvement in the last 2 years Mus t be able to provide 2 letters of recommendation from someone who has had an impact on your recovery (mental health specialist, natural support, law enforcement official, etc.)

Working Conditions:
Must be physically and emotionally fit to work in a stress-filled environment to meet deadlines and deal with routine and crisis situations. May have extended periods of sitting, walking, and standing. Requires varying hours of duty to provide monitoring, educational and/or crisis handling, as well as travel to off campus locations in LBHS or personal vehicle.

Realiza una amplia gama de tareas para ayudar a sus pares a recuperar el control sobre sus propias vidas y su proceso de recuperación, incluida la promoción, la provisión de recursos para conectarse con otros pares, el desarrollo del plan WRAP y el uso de experiencias vividas e historias de recuperación personal. Funciona como un modelo a seguir para mantener la recuperación y la utilización continua de herramientas de bienestar y recuperación. Supervisa el progreso de sus compañeros hacia los objetivos del tratamiento. Se requiere documentación extensa; traza con precisión los servicios y el progreso de los pares. Participa en sesiones de dotación de personal/planificación y ofrece una perspectiva de pares sobre el tratamiento.

Este puesto requiere:
  • Diploma de escuela secundaria o GED
  • título asociado en el campo de servicios humanos.
  • Elegible para la certificación como especialista de pares o recuperación certificada de adicciones
  • Especialista en empoderamiento por el estado de Georgia y obtener la certificación dentro de los 6 meses posteriores a la contratación.
  • Debe tener un buen conocimiento práctico de las computadoras, incluido Microsoft Office.
  • Utiliza discreción en el manejo de la información confidencial de la organización y la información protegida del consumidor.
  • Excelentes habilidades de comunicación interpersonal, verbal y escrita.

  • Debe estar en recuperación, limpio y sobrio, durante al menos 2 años.
  • Sin encarcelamiento ni participación policial en los últimos 2 años
  • Debe poder proporcionar 2 cartas de recomendación de alguien que haya tenido un impacto en su recuperación (especialista en salud mental, apoyo natural, funcionario encargado de hacer cumplir la ley, etc.)
