As a industrial marine painter, you’re responsible for preparing and applying protective coatings to the surfaces of marine vessels, including both interior and exterior components, using various painting techniques like brushing, rolling, and spraying, while adhering to strict quality standards and safety protocols, ensuring proper surface preparation and selecting the appropriate marine coatings for each application to protect against corrosion and marine life attachment.
Key responsibilities of an industrial marine painter:
- Surface preparation: Cleaning, sanding, scraping, and removing rust, grease, and old paint from metal, wood, and fiberglass surfaces on vessels.
- Mixing and applying coatings: Accurately mixing different types of marine paints and coatings according to manufacturer specifications and applying them using brushes, rollers, and spray guns.
- Applying specialized coatings: Applying specific coatings like anti-fouling paints on underwater hulls to prevent marine growth, as well as protective coatings for decks, bulkheads, and other areas.
- Filling and fairing: Repairing minor imperfections on surfaces with fillers and sanding them smooth to achieve a professional finish.
- Stenciling and marking: Applying markings and identification numbers on vessels as required.
- Quality control: Inspecting painted surfaces for defects and ensuring compliance with industry standards.
- Safety compliance: Following all safety procedures related to working at heights, handling hazardous materials, and wearing appropriate protective gear.
