LEGACY EARLY COLLEGE OVERVIEW
Legacy Early College is a K4-12 public charter school that originated through the vision of businessman William Brown in 2010 with an unwavering focus on “To and Through College” at every grade level. Legacy’s model combines academics, nutrition, physical fitness and mental health. In addition to our college driven academic standards, meals are made on site, scholars participate in PE everyday and Social-Emotional Literacy is integrated in the culture and curriculum. We currently occupy the site of the historic Parker High School and the former Greenville County Fine Arts Center.
POSITION OVERVIEW
Legacy Early College (“Legacy”) is looking for Special Education Teachers for the 2018-2019 school year, with the ability to ensure student success through differentiated instruction. The candidate must be able to create and maintain a climate that promotes respect- tolerance- and peaceful problem solving for all students. This position reports to the School Principal.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Special Education Services
- Review general education teacher lesson plans and provide detailed feedback to enable them to make necessary accommodations and modifications based on student learning needs and standards
- Work with students with IEPs to set high goals that will compete with students who are applying to top high schools
- Review student 504 plans and IEPs and lead IEP meetings
- Oversees compliance of special education files
- Tracks discipline data to ensure that special education discipline procedures are implemented (Manifestation Determination meetings, continuity of SPED services, FAPE)
- Coordinates RTI procedures and implementation
- Assist principal in coordinating, managing, and administering state, MAP, and interim assessments with accommodations
- Monitor overall academic progress for students with IEPs
Work Schedule
Teachers will operate on the Legacy Early College academic calendar, on the 195-day (10 month school year) schedule. A typical Full Time week during normal school hours is Monday through Friday, 7:30 am to 4:00 pm. School breaks include: 1 week Fall (TG), 2 weeks Winter, 1 week Spring.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree, required
- Valid South Carolina teaching certification, required
- Special Education teaching certification, required
- A minimum of 2 years of successful lead teaching experience in an underserved community, preferred
- Dedication to helping children grow and learn
- Relentless focus on results and a commitment to teamwork
- Experience working with English Language Learners, preferred
- Bilingual (English/Spanish), preferred

Work Environment

Position will have periods of extended work week hours, which is required to support both the ongoing development of the region and the delivery of high quality education for all students.
