What are the responsibilities and job description for the OB Hospitalist Medical Director position at Legacy Health?
Overview
Provides medical leadership, oversight, direction and support for OB GYN Hospitalist programs at Salmon Creek Hospital. Provides clinical consultation support for high risk patients in the Legacy Midwifery clinic at Emanuel.
Provides continuous in-hospital coverage for Maternal-Fetal Medicine (MFM) service and for additional hospital-based OB-GYN services. Physician serves as an “extender” for the MFM physicians who are on campus during the day and on call at night and on weekends.
Education:
Graduate of a four-year U.S. Medical School or equivalent. Residency completed in OB-GYN.
Experience:
Clinical Experience in OG-BYN, including high-risk pregnancy management.
Certification/Licensure:
Board Certified or Board Eligible in OB-GYN.
Unrestricted license to practice medicine in the state(s) of practice.
Active member in good standing of Hospital Medical Staff.

GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Clinical Patient Care: Provides prompt and efficient medical care to patients assigned to the inpatient MFM service as scheduled. Performs duties at the professional level of quality and efficiency established by Hospital.
- Provides emergency back-up support for community OB-GYN physicians, including C-section assistance.
- Provides back-up coverage for Family Practice physicians doing obstetrics in the Hospital.
- Management of unassigned patients.
- Management, as needed, for patients presenting to the emergency department with OB or GYN complaints.
- Back up support for Nurse-Midwives (if Nurse-Midwifery program develops in hospital).
- Participates as team member in patient-care conferences.
- Collaborates with physicians, nursing, and administrative staff to maximize cost-effective use of clinical resources.
- Provides prompt and clear communication about patient’s status and changes in condition to other clinicians responsible for care.

- Prepares accurate and timely documentation of patient care to maximize accurate billing and collection for services.
- Works directly with OB/GYN Residents and Medical Students – providing direction and evaluation.
- Participates and provides leadership on appropriate clinical committees as requested.
- Provides physician input into improvement of quality, patient safety, and patient and family satisfaction.
LEADERSHIP ACCOUNTABILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Lead and Supervise
- Plans and facilitates provider meetings.
- Clearly communicates performance and behavior expectations to physicians.
- Prepares and conducts OB GYN hospitalist performance evaluations in collaboration with the Program Manager and Clinical Vice President.
- Assists with the resolution of complex issues and problems amongst physicians and between physicians and hospital staff.
- Models, monitors, and encourages well-being for Physician colleagues.
Program Growth
- Participates in the administration of the program’s compensation plan.
- Assists Clinical Vice President of Surgical Specialty Services in efficiently expanding the inpatient service.
- Participates in marketing and community relations to help promote the program.

- Manages OB GYN Hospitalist program schedule.
- Leads systems development for the program, including informati

- Provides clinical consultation support in the ambulatory setting for the Legacy Midwifery program including: Patient consultation/exams, medical record reviews, and policy/procedure development and assessment.
Outreach, Interdepartmental Relations
- Participates in administrative and physician leadership and hospital committee meetings.
- Encourages participation in Legacy Research projects.
- Collaborates with hospital administration and nursing to improve patient care.
- Manages relationships with referring physicians and the medical staff.
