POSITION SUMMARY : The purpose of the Certified Medication Aide (CMA) position is to administer prescribed medication to the residents and provide support to the nursing staff.

They may also assist with assessments, providing care, updating records, and completing documentation.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

The following represents the essential functions of the Certified Medication Aide's role. This list is intended to be a general description of duties and responsibilities;

however, it is subject to change according to the needs of the facility determined by the Regional Supervisor or corporate designee.

  • Ensures residents receive high quality care and that their needs are met.
  • Maintains adequate stock of medications, labels and stores them as required.
  • Prepares and administers medication and records each administration in resident's medical file.
  • Encourages and educates residents on the need for medications per the physician's orders.
  • Takes vital signs and records on the appropriate document.
  • Responsible for notifying responsible party and the physician of changes in resident's condition and / or needs to change medication regimen or need to change treatment plan.
  • Receives, transcribes, and executes physicians' orders.
  • Monitors lab results and acts accordingly.
  • Reports concerning findings to the assigned nurse and / or nursing management.
  • Assists and supervises Certified Nursing Assistants (CNA) with daily tasks.
  • Assures implementation of care plans as directed.
  • Investigates / documents and provides input for interventions when incidents and accidents.
  • Encourages safety to prevent injury. Assures equipment safety and cleanliness.
  • Follows facility policy and procedures.
  • Communicates in a professional and courteous manner using effective verbal and non-verbal communication skills with residents, their families, and co-workers.
  • Clocks in and out for all working / training hours. Working off the clock will not be permitted at any time or for any reason.
  • Must act in ways that promote professional and positive representation of the facility to the community.
  • Maintain compliance with Legacy's Compliance program and plan.
  • Adhere to Legacy's Code of Conduct and Dress Code.
  • These duties are not all-inclusive but provide minimum performance expectations which will be reviewed in the evaluation process.

Supervisor may edit, alter, add to, or exclude duties and responsibilities based on the needs of the facility.

QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE / REQUIREMENTS :

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and / or ability required.

Minimum Qualifications :

  • Freedom from illegal use of drugs.
  • Freedom from use and effects of drugs and alcohol in the workplace.
  • Anyone found guilty by a court of law of abusing, neglecting or mistreating individuals in a health care related setting are ineligible for employment in the position.

Education and Experience :

  • Long Term Care experience preferred, but not required.
  • High School Diploma

Certifications, Licenses, Registrations :

  • Certification for CMA license and a current, valid license or registration in the state where employed are required.
  • CPR certification desired.
