Summary
Responsible for supporting administrative and clinical requirements of physicians and other providers. Assists in obtaining adult, child, and adolescent patient’s vital signs. Maintains medical records, compiles related statistical data and provides secretarial work in accordance with established policy/procedure/practice, regulatory requirements and JCAHO standards for the Cohen Veterans Clinic (CVN) of Cape Fear Valley Health System.A minimum of six months clinical/clerical experience in a medical facility desired. Experience with homeless, low income, veterans & their families is desired. Experience working with a military or veteran population is preferred. Ability to take and record accurately vital signs. Knowledge of medical terminology. Solid understanding of computer functions to include Microsoft Word, photocopier and fax machines . Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to interact tactfully with co-workers, visitors, patients and other staff. Ability to present a friendly and positive demeanor to veterans, their families, staff, supportive services personnel, funders, and the general public. Ability to remain calm and maintain self-control in the midst of difficult circumstances and emergencies. Ability to adapt to change. Ability to respond in a professional manner in all situations. Must be highly organized, detail oriented, and reliable. Must be results-oriented and exemplify a team player attitude. Must have excellent spelling and grammatical skills. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form. Must have ability to work independently and have good organizational and communication skills.While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and to talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand, reach with arms and stoop, kneel or crouch. May require some light to moderate lifting. Employee should have the ability to work under physical and mental stress. Motor coordination and finger dexterity are required to operate the calculator, computer and typewriter. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
