Description
The purpose of this position is to inspect, service, maintain, repair, and install portable and fixed fire extinguishing equipment, fire extinguishers, fire suppression equipment, and fire hoses.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Performs routine and complex maintenance and repairs on various fire suppression equipment, e.g., fire extinguishers, range hood extinguishing systems, and fire hoses.
- Maintains movie screens, paper cutters, maps, signage, window blinds, and stage curtains.
- Dismantles extinguishers and examines tubing, horns, head gaskets, cutter discs, and other parts for defects and replaces worn or damaged parts.
- Inspects and repairs wet and dry fire sprinklers and range hood extinguishing systems.
- Cleans and recharges extinguishers with materials such as patented solutions.
- Repairs cabinets or brackets holding extinguishers.
- Tests fire extinguishers: Inspects, repairs, and/or replaces fire hoses.
- Inspects extinguishers for compliance with legal specifications using hand tools and performing hydrostatic tests.
- Install fire extinguishers in new or renovated facilities.
- Monitors inventory and initiates requests for supplies, materials, and equipment.
- Tags fire extinguishing equipment to certify equipment has been properly inspected and operational.
- Performs moderately complex physically demanding semi-skilled maintenance and repair tasks of buildings, grounds, and school and athletic equipment, requiring use and working knowledge of specialized tools, equipment, and/or materials.
- Inspects extinguishers for compliance with legal specifications using hand tools and performing hydrostatic tests.
- Installs fire extinguishers in new or renovated facilities.
- Responsible for the safe handling and disposal of hazardous materials.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Understands the principles and practices of fire safety and suppression.
- Understands codes and regulations related to work.
- Requires the ability to perform routine to moderately complex inspections, service, and repair of fire extinguishing equipment.
- The ability to maintain accurate records and reports.
- The ability to understand and follow oral and written directions.
- The ability to use small office equipment and computers.
Physical Requirements:
- Constantly stand/walk, grasp lightly/forcefully, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 30 pounds.
- Frequently twist/bend/stop/squat, operate hand controls.
- Occasionally sit, perform desk-based computer tasks, write by hand, sort/file paperwork or parts, kneel/crawl, climb (ladders, scaffolds, or other), work/reach above shoulders, and lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 30 pounds.
