Project Management Manager (Remote)

Legacy Tree Genealogists
Salt Lake, UT Remote Part Time
POSTED ON 1/4/2025
AVAILABLE BEFORE 3/4/2025

**This posting will remain open until filled**

We at Legacy Tree Genealogists love helping people all over the world (in over 50 countries!) discover their heritage. For over 20 years we’ve been changing people’s lives forever by answering some of their deepest questions. The Project Management (PM) Manager loves supporting our project managers. They strive to lead by example, distribute work evenly to keep everyone on the team busy, help handle client concerns, and train, coach, and mentor our project managers to help them grow and develop professionally. The PM Manager also supports Legacy Tree by contributing to the development of company policy. They advocate for the needs and perspectives of the project management team and implement company policy and processes when decisions are made.

This is where you come in!

About You

It’s not easy to make each client’s experience the very best it can possibly be, and dealing with client concerns when they arise is not an easy task. This means we need an extraordinary person who can remain calm and empathetic, has excellent problem-solving skills, is open to (and excited about!) change, and is over-the-top with their organization and attention to details.

You will be a great fit if:

  • You have experience in people management and are great at maintaining positive team morale while still caring about “the numbers”.
  • You are emotionally intelligent, flexible, and resilient, with great attention to detail.
  • You have strong leadership skills as well as excellent communication and people skills.
  • You are solution-oriented when it comes to problems and can tackle them in creative ways.
  • You are highly organized and experienced at managing multiple tasks and responsibilities at the same time.
  • You are an articulate and friendly communicator via phone, email and text.
  • You are adept at building trust and credibility with team members and clients.
  • You have experience managing multiple projects and clients.
  • You are comfortable suggesting reorder sales.
  • You are proficient at remaining calm and kind while addressing client concerns.
  • You are comfortable with Microsoft Office suite, particularly Word and PowerPoint (even better if that includes OneDrive).
  • You’re familiar with genealogical technology such as pedigree software (we use RootsMagic).
  • You have a quiet place to work with a computer, great internet, and without distractions.

Even better if:

  • You have a Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience.
  • You have genealogical research experience and a familiarity with genetic genealogy.

If you really don’t match this list, please wait to apply. We play a long game and will still be around when you’re ready. Sign up for notifications on future job opportunities with Legacy Tree and check out other open positions

What you’ll be doing as a Manager at Legacy Tree:

  • You’ll supervise a team of Project Managers whose role is to build trust with our clients and oversee all projects from start to finish. This includes overseeing their productivity and workload, ensuring their working needs are met, and providing support and encouragement along the way. Knowing your team’s strengths and capabilities, you'll evaluate and advise on raises and promotions for each of your team members.
  • You'll watch capacity metrics to identify when to add more members to your team and will be involved in the hiring process from interviewing to training new team members.
  • You’ll watch performance metrics to identify when members of your team need additional training, and mentor them to help improve their performance.
  • You'll conduct team meetings, perform weekly queue checks, and hold team-member 1:1s including annual and quarterly reviews. You'll also organize and oversee team trainings.
  • You'll participate in department, manager, and cross-departmental meetings, contributing to drafting policy and process decisions when asked. You'll also play an integral role in implementing company policy and process decisions.
  • In addition to your management duties, you'll manage an active client load, maintaining a specific percentage of Billable hours. This will allow you to better relate to your team members and help them solve project-related problems when they ask you for help. It will also allow you to advise the Operations Team on project management-related improvements and initiatives.
  • With your input, you'll do other things as opportunities and needs arise.

What you’ll be doing as a Project Manager at Legacy Tree (since Managers are required to maintain their own active client load):

  • Act as the primary liaison between Legacy Tree Genealogists and clients.
  • Establish and maintain a positive relationship with LTG clients.
  • Manage active projects through a workflow process using workflow management software.
  • Review and polish edited reports to meet client needs.
  • Take care of clients and ask them for renewal sales (and earning commissions for these sales!).
  • Think outside the box to resolve Project Management Team and client concerns.
  • Respond positively to change and embrace new practices to accomplish goals and solve problems.
  • Contribute to team efforts by achieving individual goals and team targets.

If this all fits you, please submit an application. We can’t wait to learn more about you.

What Working at Legacy Tree as a Manager Will be Like

  • This position is 100% remote with the exception of required attendance at periodic company and leadership retreats (and you may be asked to be in charge of part of the retreats, too).
  • Like all roles at Legacy Tree, managers can set their own work hours but do need to be available during regular business hours to answer questions from team members and others throughout the company.
  • This position is expected to be PT (25-29 hours per week), but a transition to FT (40 hours) may be possible as the workload increases.
  • Both PT and FT employees receive 3% 401k matching, along with PTO and paid holidays. FT benefits include medical, dental and vision insurance as well. We also provide opportunities for paid training to improve your skills!
  • Managers participate in a team-based bonus program and receive bonuses bases on team performance.

We work hard to make working at Legacy Tree a great part of our team members' lives. Here’s a little about what life here will be like. We may be a remote company, but when you’re solving some of the toughest genealogy mysteries in the world and working with a variety of clients, there’s a lot of cooperation that takes place. You’ll get to know your team members (and those on other teams) pretty darn well, and you’ll be grateful for their support when you have questions. You'll find out first-hand why Legacy Tree has won the award Best and Brightest Companies to Work for in the Nation for several concurrent years.
