What are the responsibilities and job description for the Out of School Time "OST" Group Leader - Overbrook Educational Center position at Legacy Youth Tennis and Education?
The Group Leader at Overbrook Educational Center, 6722 Lansdowne Ave., Phila, PA 19151, will work from 2:30 pm to 6:00 pm, Monday through Friday. Additional work hours may be required for programming on Philadelphia School District half days, and if available for spring break camps and early care to comply with the City of Philadelphia’s extended day school initiative.
The Group Leader reports to the Site Director and Group Supervisor. Group Leaders are responsible for assisting in the planning and implementation of daily activities. Primarily, the Group Leader will ensure student safety; support and assist in all activities; assist with attendance; snack distribution; site set up and break down; and maintain connection with parents and school personnel.
Group Leaders are responsible for the implementation and evaluation of program activities and services and will work with the team in teaching, coaching, mentoring, and facilitating literacy, social-emotional learning, enrichment activities, athletic development, arts and crafts and character education. The Group Leader will attend all required meetings. The Group Leader will have a background in working with school aged children in an educational setting (Teacher; Teacher’s Aid; Social Services; Human Services)
Essential Functions/Responsibilities:
● Prepare materials, lesson plans and execute activity plans
● Group Leaders will work closely with both the Site Director and Group Supervisor on curriculum structuring and programmatic implementation
● Offer structured and unstructured activities that support literacy, enhance character development, and engage participants in fun enrichment programming
● Oversee homework for up to 30 minutes per day
● Ensure participants are offered a healthy snack every day
● Maintain a clean and orderly environment and ensure that youth are safe at all times.
● Actively engage with youth and serve as mentors and role models.
● Assist in maintaining students’ records and overall program documentation as required
● Assist with the management and discipline of students
● Attend all designated orientation sessions, and all scheduled City-mandated trainings and meetings of professional development
● Work cooperatively with program staff using open communication and problem-solving skills
Required Skills, Experience and Clearances:
● High School Diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 3 years of experience working with school aged children in an educational setting (Teacher; Teacher’s Aid; Social Services;)
● An Associate Degree from an accredited college or university in early childhood education, child development, special education, elementary education, or the human services field and 2 years of experience working with children.
● Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
● Conflict resolution skills
● Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Excel, Word and PowerPoint
● Excellent organization skills including the ability to prioritize work
● The ability to problem solve individually and as part of a team
● MUST pass Pennsylvania Child Abuse (Act 151), Pennsylvania State Police Criminal (Act 34), and FBI (Act 114) clearances in addition to signing a sexual misconduct/abuse disclosure (Act 168).
● Must complete Mandated Reporter Training (PA Act 126 – Part 1), National Sex Offender Clearance (“NSOR”) and Staff Health Assessment including TB Testing.
● Clearances must be renewed every 5 years.
● All Group Leaders are required by the City of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania to have year-round professional development Training hours
● Required to provide programming on School Half Days
