JOB SUMMARY :
MLA seeks two organized, collaborative, creative, and impassioned individuals to work as full-time paralegals in its newly formed Community Lawyering and Development unit. Community Lawyering and Development (CLD) is part of MLA’s Statewide Advocacy Support team, which focuses on systemic impact work throughout Maryland. The office location is in Baltimore City, but CLD paralegals can expect to work throughout the state.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Engage in traditional paralegal duties, including intake interviews, case management and support, research, and litigation preparation.
- Participate in extensive community outreach and education to current and prospective clients and community groups, including canvassing and Know Your Rights presentations.
- Plan and facilitate community meetings and clinics.
- Work on systemic and impact projects impacting low-income communities.
- Network with partner and community organizations and effectively communicate the services and priorities of MLA.
- Contribute to internal processes such as project management, data gathering, and grant reporting.
QUALIFICATIONS :
Work Environment
This is a hybrid office / home position. Frequent field work with significant travel throughout the state. Occasional weekend and evening hours will be necessary to accommodate community needs.
Benefits
Paralegals will be paid in accordance with MLA’s Workers Union current salary scale, which is subject to revision annually through collective bargaining negotiations. Relevant professional experience counts toward salary determination. Paralegals are eligible for additional compensation for conferred degrees and certificates ranging from $500 - $4000. For example :
The current salary range for the paralegal classification is $50,000.00 - $88,600.00.
