What are the responsibilities and job description for the Gateway Long-Term Care Ombudsman position at Legal Aid of the Bluegrass?
Summary : Legal Aid of the Bluegrass seeks a Long-Term Care Ombudsman for its Morehead, KY based office. Legal of the Bluegrass is a non-profit civil legal aid provider with a 50-year history of making a positive impact in communities located in northeastern and central Kentucky. The Long-Term Care Ombudsman/Paralegal advocates for the rights of people confined to nursing homes/assisted living facilities in five counties around Morehead.
Responsibilities include:
- Interacting with residents of nursing homes, assisted living facilities, and personal care homes, nursing facility staff, other staff members, service providers, and local funders and state oversight personnel in a professional, appropriate, collegial, and cooperative manner.
- Establishing and maintaining relationships with residents to establish trust and obtain accurate and complete information.
- Identifying, investigating, and resolving complaints made by or on behalf of residents.
- Developing, helping develop or maintaining relationships with citizen organizations and volunteers to participate in the program.
- Legal research and drafting.
- Data entry and clerical duties; etc.
- Entering data appropriately in LABG’s electronic case management system.
- Maintaining time records of all work related activities and enter accurate data on a timely basis into LABG’s electronic case management system as per 45 CFR Part 1626 and per LABG’s procedures.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements, Skill & Abilities include:
- Four-year degree from an accredited College or University or an Associate’s Degree in Paralegal or Legal Studies, or have equivalent experience (e.g. at least working with the elderly in an investigative and advocacy position).
- Ability to clearly and accurately communicate verbally and in writing.
- Ability to advocate for the community’s most vulnerable people professionally and non-confrontationally.
- Ability to coordinate work with the state oversight agency
- Ability to use office and computer technology, including case management and word processing software.
Salary Range: $32,664 - $45,339
