What are the responsibilities and job description for the Staff Attorney position at Legal Aid of Western Missouri?
The Municipal Court Unit is seeking a full time staff attorney to represent indigent defendants in Kansas City Municipal Court. The primary responsibility of this attorney is to provide legal representation to indigent defendants on jailable city ordinance violations. Preference is given to applicants with experience or a demonstrated commitment to service in the area of public interest or poverty law. LAWMO is a non-profit organization that provides legal assistance in civil matters to low-income persons.
The qualified candidate must have the following:
- Active Missouri Bar license
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Desire and commitment to assist in the delivery of high-quality legal assistance
- Ability to speak a second language, preferred, but not required
- Courtroom experience, preferred
Salary: $65,000 DOE
