Job Summary:
Legal Aid of San Bernardino (LASSB) has an immediate, full-time position for a Housing Legal Assistant. The ideal candidates will have a demonstrated commitment to serving disadvantaged populations, will have knowledge of landlord tenant law, legal software programs used to prepare California Judicial Council Forms, and experience working in a high-volume environment. Ability to interact with a wide range of clients utilizing client-centered lawyering and trauma-informed frameworks. We will give preference to candidates who know poverty law and have experience providing services to low-income individuals.

- Salary $41,600 - $47,760 – depending on experience
- Maintain caseload of housing-related matters, under attorney supervision, including, but not limited to matters involving eviction defense and administrative hearings for subsidized housing.
- Work with attorney to prepare cases for trial and administrative hearings.
- Prepare legal work under the supervision of an attorney.
- Maintain detailed and accurate case notes and timekeeping in case management system.
- Using LegalServer, Lawya, and other programs, collect and maintain data required under the specific grant.
- Assist attorney with intake and initial client appointments.
- Prepare and maintain client files, electronic and/or physical.
- Interview clients. Effectively and efficiently communicate with clients including accurately relaying legal advice provided by the attorney.
- Prepare legal forms, pleadings, memoranda, correspondence, and other legal documents.
- Perform various clerical duties such as record-keeping, document copying, e-Filing, etc.
- Observe confidentiality of attorney-client relationship.
- May be required to work at clinics and/or workshops located in local courts
- Perform other duties as required to meet the needs of the organization.
Desired Skills:
- Four (4) year college degree or 1-year relevant legal experience
- Knowledge of legal terminology and legal document management
- Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal service
- Effective oral and written communication skills
- Accurate typing skills with the ability to type 60 WPM
- Previous calendaring experience
- Ability to be flexible to adapt and act quickly when urgent matters require it
- Self-motivated takes initiative, ability to learn quickly
- Language: Ability to read, write and communicate in English and Spanish
