Position Description: The family law paralegal will work under the supervision of a licensed family law attorney, supporting our practice by preparing documents, auditing discovery, and organizing and maintaining files. Additional responsibilities include filing pleadings with the court and assisting with trial preparations, such as organizing exhibits and handling other necessary tasks.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain regular communication with clients, keeping them informed of case progress and addressing any concerns or questions.
  • Coordinate and schedule appointments, hearings, and mediation sessions, and manage attorney’s calendar.
  • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism while dealing with sensitive client information and situations.
  • Draft, review, and prepare a variety of family law documents, including notices, petitions, motions, and trial notebooks.
  • Manage case deadlines and ensure timely filing of documents to avoid delays in client cases.
  • Collaborate closely with attorneys and other team members to support overall case strategy and provide assistance as needed.

Paralegal Duties:

  • As a family law paralegal, you will play a crucial role in supporting attorneys in handling family law cases, including but limited to divorce, paternity, temporary custody, stepparent adoption, and domestic violence.
  • Prepare affidavits, legal correspondence, and other documents for attorneys.
  • Organize and maintain documents in a paper or electronic filing system.
  • Meet with clients, attorneys, and other professionals to discuss case details.
  • File pleadings with the court clerk.
  • Assist in trial preparations by organizing exhibits and performing other tasks as needed.
  • Investigate facts and laws of cases, and search public records and other resources to prepare cases.
  • Direct and coordinate law office activities, including the delivery of subpoenas.
  • Gather and analyze statutes, decisions, legal articles, codes, documents, and other data.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree and/or paralegal certification from an accredited institution.
  • At least two years of experience is preferred.
  • Good communication skills; ability to work constructively with others in a team setting; good judgment; strong organizational capability; ability to learn quickly and work independently and under pressure.
  • Strong written and verbal skills; ability to multi-task; proficiency in Microsoft Office; and ability to learn and work in a customized electronic case management system.
  • A desire to serve in public interest law is mandatory.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish is required.

Benefits: Compensation starts at $42,000 and is based on experience, plus bonuses and salary adjustments; EXCELLENT benefits worth substantial financial value.

Time Requirement: LAS office hours are Monday through Friday from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm. This is a full-time position, requiring availability during work hours. Work may be conducted remotely and outside of office hours three to four days per workweek.
