Overview
The Director, Technical Accounting & Financial Reporting will be responsible for addressing
technical accounting issues from the business including research and implementation of new
pronouncements and review and update of policies and procedures. Candidate must be
comfortable and have deep expertise in a broad area of complex accounting issues relative to
the Technology / SaaS industry including revenue recognition, debt, investments, business
combinations, consolidation and variable interest entities, goodwill, stock-based compensation,
and all other general areas of accounting and related disclosure. Furthermore, the Director will
be responsible for the preparation and drafting of consolidated financial statements, interim and
annual reports for external reporting to our investors and stakeholders and supporting our
strategic transactional activities.
The successful candidate will be a strong communicator and have exceptional technical
strength that can provide proactive guidance and leadership on accounting, disclosures and
financial reporting. This position will interact with all levels of the organization and will serve as a
valuable resource for accounting, finance, legal and other key business partners. Additionally,
the successful candidate must have the ability to build relationships at all levels within the
organization and demonstrate the ability to present complex technical accounting matters to
leadership in a manner that is easy to understand. We are looking for a CPA with strong
analytical, leadership, and interpersonal skills. Strong business acumen and the ability to
influence change through written and verbal communications are imperative.
You will
- Report to the Chief Accounting Officer and support the business on key technical accounting, financial reporting and disclosure issues
- Create and maintain internal and future potential external reporting calendar, coordinate key timelines and deliverables, and work collaboratively with various business partners to ensure timely, accurate and complete reporting and future potential public filings
- Work closely with investor and lender relations and corporate finance to help maintain financial accuracy and message continuity across earnings releases, quarterly and annual reports, and other public facing publications
- Be a sound communicator and have imperative written documentation abilities required to write financial statements, technical accounting memos and other publications
- Able to work independently, research issues timely and come to a point of view
- Prepare well written financial statements, quarterly and annual reports, technical accounting memos and other internal deliverables that are succinct and compelling
- Work closely with the Accounting & Consolidation, Revenues, Payables, Tax and global Finance teams on new accounting pronouncements and aid the teams with adoption procedures
- Continuous training and education of our Finance teams on recent technical accounting guidance and application of new accounting standards
- Own and operate related internal controls over financial reporting and disclosure
- Work actively and timely with external auditors
- Address ad-hoc reporting and analytics, as requested
You have
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or related field
- Certified Public Accountant
- Minimum of 10 years of relevant work experience, including Big 4 public accounting experience and SEC reporting experience with a large publicly traded company
- Strong technical knowledge of U.S. GAAP and SEC accounting and reporting requirements
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Strong interpersonal skills, ability to thrive in a team environment
- Must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of management
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and adept at handling change
- Excellent time-management and organizational skills with experience in working toward tight deadlines
- Oracle ERP, Workiva, MS office proficiency, XBRL, familiar with research tools and reporting tools
LegalZoom is a remote-first company and the national range for this role is ($155,300-$201,250). Actual compensation offered will depend on several factors including but not limited to: geographic location, work experience, education, skill level, and/or other business and organizational needs. In addition, an annual bonus, incentive bonus and/or restricted stock units may be provided as part of the compensation package. Salary : $155,300 - $201,250
