Activity Director

Overview
The Activities Director plays a vital role in enhancing the quality of life for residents in assisted living and long-term care facilities. This position is responsible for planning, organizing, and implementing engaging activities that cater to the diverse interests and abilities of residents, particularly those with memory care needs. The Activities Director will work closely with staff, families, and community resources to create a vibrant and supportive environment that promotes social interaction, cognitive engagement, and overall well-being.

Duties

• Develop and implement a comprehensive activities program tailored to the needs of residents, including those with dementia and other cognitive impairments.
• Coordinate recreational therapy sessions that promote physical, mental, and emotional health.
• Assess residents' interests and abilities to create personalized activity plans.
• Facilitate group activities such as arts and crafts, music therapy, games, and exercise classes.
• Collaborate with caregiving staff to ensure activities are integrated into daily routines.
• Organize special events and outings that encourage community involvement and socialization.
• Maintain records of participation and evaluate the effectiveness of programs regularly.
• Provide support and training to staff on best practices for engaging residents in activities.
• Foster relationships with families to encourage their involvement in resident activities.

Skills

• Experience in memory care or dementia care settings is highly desirable.
• Knowledge of recreational therapy principles and practices.
• Ability to work effectively with individuals with disabilities and varying levels of cognitive function.
• Strong organizational skills with attention to detail in planning activities.
• Excellent communication skills for interacting with residents, families, and staff members.
• Compassionate approach to caregiving with a focus on enhancing the quality of life for aging individuals.
• Familiarity with aging issues counseling is a plus.
• Ability to adapt activities based on resident feedback and changing needs.
