What are the responsibilities and job description for the Peer Support Specialist position at Legends Recovery Center?
Legends Recovery Center of Ohio is currently seeking Full Time Certified Peer Support Specialist to support others in recovery from mental illness and/or substance use disorders. They will serve as a role model, mentor, advocate and motivator to recovering individuals in order to help prevent relapse and promote long-term recovery.
The Peer Support Specialist must demonstrate an ability to share personal recovery experiences and to develop authentic peer-to-peer relationships. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide recovery education to individuals for every phase of the recovery journey from engagement, recovery planning, recovery treatment, recovery stabilization, and sustained recovery maintenance.
- May facilitate or co-facilitate recovery and/or skill-building groups.
- Provide a model for both people in recovery, family members/friends/supporters of people in recovery, and staff by demonstrating that recovery is possible
- Assist individuals in recovery in developing their own plan for advancing their recovery and improving functioning in the home, community, workplace and/or school environments.
- Actively identify and support linkages to community resources and organizations that support the individual’s goals and interests with focus on all eight dimensions of wellness.
- Maintain a professional approach and understand the importance of clear boundaries between self, staff, and fellow peers.
- Offer empathetic and non-judgmental peer support to individuals receiving inpatient treatment for substance use disorders.
- Ability to form and maintain trusting relationships with persons served that are intended to be long-term.
- Uses in-person contact, phone, text, and email to maintain ongoing open communication with persons served increases this contact during periods of crisis, significant change, or when transitioning from one level of care to another.
- Be prepared to assist clients in crisis situations, using your training and experience to help de-escalate and provide emotional support until professional help is available.
- Maintain accurate and confidential records of client interactions and progress, adhering to all relevant legal and ethical standards.
Requirements:
- At minimum, a High School Diploma or GED
- Must have an understanding and respect for each individual's unique path to recovery
- Must have a working knowledge of mental health and the drug and alcohol treatment and legal systems
- Must have acquired or meet the qualifications for certification as an Ohio Certified Peer Recovery Supporter
- Must be able to bill Medicaid for PRS (Peer Recovery Supporter)
- Ability to operate a motor vehicle at dusk, in the dark, and during all weather conditions.
- Ability to work evenings and weekends based on the needs of the persons serviced and agency staffing.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $18.00 - $21.00 per hour
