The General Services Unit of the Legislative Counsel Bureau (LCB) is seeking a diverse pool of qualified applicants for the position of Mail Clerk within the Administrative Division. The LCB is a nonpartisan, legislative service agency that provides professional, technical and administrative support to the Nevada Legislature, which convenes biennially in odd-numbered years for 120-day sessions and for rare special sessions during the interim periods. The General Services Unit provides logistical support to the legislators, legislative staff and LCB staff. This is a temporary, full-time position located in Carson City, Nevada, and will continue as needed for several weeks beyond the conclusion of the legislative session.

Position Description: Under the general supervision of the General Services Manager, the Mail Clerk will support legislators, legislative staff and LCB staff by processing, sorting and distributing mail and other packages. Responsibilities of the Mail Clerk may include, without limitation:

· Receiving, identifying and sorting mail for delivery to all units and divisions of the LCB and legislative staff;

· Ensuring consistent and timely delivery of mail between LCB buildings and to other state agencies and businesses, as directed;

· Integrating updated materials into outdated publications, such as the Nevada Revised Statutes, the Nevada Administrative Code and other legal manuals ;

· Handling requests for shipping and receiving, including package delivery and pickup;

· Using an x-ray machine to inspect and identify possible threats in the mail;

· Maintaining records such as shipping logs, publication invoices and purchase orders;

· Monitoring inventory of supplies and materials;

· Assembling and moving office furniture, equipment and other office items as needed;

· Assisting with equipment maintenance and repair;

· Providing effective backup support to team members and other units as required; and

· Performing other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications: The Mail Clerk will be selected with special preference given to the candidate’s training, experience and aptitude in the fields of warehouse services and/or mail processing. A qualified candidate must have: (1) a high school diploma/GED; and (2) a valid driver’s license. Previous experience in warehouse services or mail processing is preferred.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate:

· The ability to prioritize tasks, including tracking and organizing records using computer databases and/or spreadsheets;

· Experience with processing and sorting mail and other documents, including handling time-sensitive and confidential items;

· The ability to work independently and collaboratively after training;

· The capacity to communicate effectively;

· The ability to lift and move items weighing up to 50 pounds, employing proper safety techniques;

· The ability to accurately read and interpret complex documents and instructions;

· The ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships; and

· The skill to resolve problems and maintain professionalism under deadlines and during critical projects.

Salary: The annual salary for this position is based on a Grade 23, which has a salary range of $39,421 to $56,689. Actual starting salary will be based on experience.

Working Conditions: The work is performed in a highly professional environment, providing logistical support to legislators and legislative staff, and may involve exposure to dirt, pollen, insects, inclement weather, moving equipment, equipment noise and temperature fluctuations. Overtime is required during legislative sessions and certain other periods as necessary to meet the demands of the Legislature. When overtime is worked, the Mail Clerk may earn compensatory time that can be taken at a later date or be paid for the overtime, consistent with the LCB Rules and Policies and subject to budgetary limits.
