The Content Developer and Social Media Specialist position is responsible for developing strategies to maintain the College’s social media presence that encourages audience engagement and meets goals set by departments. Works collaboratively across the institution to develop and create content for the College’s social media and website. Reports to the Director of Marketing and Digital Media.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for developing content for a variety of platforms, including social media, web, marketing materials, advertising copy, video, etc.
- Writes communication content for digital and social media platforms for informational and promotional materials associated with College brand.
- Provides live social media coverage of major College events (e.g. commencement, convocation).
- Researches marketing trends, posts content on each relevant platform, and encourages audience engagement
- Ensures the College’s social media platforms are correct, relevant, engaging and demonstrate best practices.
- Develops original content (text, photo, video) on a variety of channels and suggests creative ways to reinforce the college’s brand, drive engagement and achieve specific goals (increase attendance, build loyalty, etc.) aligned with broader marketing strategies.
- Works closely with the web communications manager, Director of Marketing and Digital Media, special events manager/ alumni relations, student groups, internal departments, as well as college’s contracted ad agency.
- Recruits and manages student volunteers to assist with event coverage and content sourcing and production.
- Supervises and guides the College Relations social media student worker and works closely with them to create engaging text, photo and video content for social media.
- Provides guidance to others to use social media in the most effective way.
- Responsible for taking high quality, engaging photos, as well as video to be used in marketing materials, internal and external communications and on social media channels, website, etc.
- Develops an optimal posting schedule, considering web traffic and engagement metrics.
- Manages the development and execution of the weekly student newsletter, including creating and strategizing of content, in coordination with the Dean of Academic Support and Success.
- Creates content for Aspire online newsletter and proposes story ideas.
- Monitors data to evaluate effectiveness, including conducting monthly content audits of all college-affiliated social media accounts to ensure consistency in college image, appropriateness of messaging and frequency of posting.
- Provides social media coverage, photography and videography services for Student Life events as appropriate.
- Coordinates Social Media Ambassador Internship Program to guide cohort of students each semester in creation of social media content in alignment with digital marketing strategies and goals.
- Acts as lead writer for Aspire Magazine, pitching, writing and developing articles, including creating promotional multimedia content where appropriate.
- Responsible for updating and maintaining Social Media Policies in collaboration with the Director of Marketing and Digital Media and Executive Director of College Relations.
- Develops and maintains an operational manual.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Associate’s degree in communications, media arts, marketing or equivalent from an accredited institution.
- Act 153 Clearances (Act 34 PA Criminal Background, Act 151 PA Child Abuse History, Act 114 FBI Clearance Fingerprinting)
- Minimum two years as a social media manager, content developer, new media manager or equivalent, preferably at a higher education institution.
- Must be well-versed with Adobe Creative Suite products including InDesign, Premier Pro and Photoshop, as well as other video editing software.
- Must have strong photography and videography skills.
- Must have excellent writing, proofreading, communication, and organizational skills.
- Must possess a high level of the following work skills and behaviors: teamwork/cooperation, initiative, customer service, and commitment to continuous professional growth in skills and knowledge.
- Experience in higher education, public education or nonprofit organization.
