What are the responsibilities and job description for the Millwork Painter/Finisher position at Leiden Company?
Leiden Company is seeking a skilled Painter/Finisher to join our union millwork and cabinet manufacturing team. This role is responsible for preparing, painting, and finishing wood and other surfaces on custom millwork, cabinetry, and architectural products. The ideal candidate will have experience in spraying, staining, sealing, and top-coating, ensuring high-quality finishes that meet industry and company standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare wood and other materials for finishing by sanding, filling, and priming as necessary.
- Apply stains, paints, lacquers, and other finishes using spray equipment, hand application, or other techniques.
- Mix and match colors to achieve the desired finish.
- Ensure proper drying and curing times for all finishes.
- Inspect finished products for defects and touch up as needed.
- Maintain a clean and organized finishing area, including proper handling and storage of paints, stains, and chemicals.
- Follow all safety protocols, including the use of PPE and proper ventilation techniques.
- Collaborate with production teams to meet quality and timeline requirements.
- Troubleshoot and resolve finishing-related issues to ensure consistency and durability of finishes.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Previous experience in wood finishing, painting, or a related field within millwork or cabinetry manufacturing.
- Proficiency in using spray guns, airless sprayers, and other finishing tools.
- Knowledge of different wood species and how they react to stains and finishes.
- Ability to read and interpret work orders and finish schedules.
- Strong attention to detail and quality control.
- Understanding of proper handling and disposal of hazardous materials.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods.
- Strong teamwork and communication skills.
Education, Qualifications & Experience
- High School diploma or GED preferred. Technical or Trade School experience helpful but not required.
- Prior experience in spray painting and using lacquer required.
- Skilled at reading a blueprint and a tape measure.
- Prior experience in building and assembling commercial cabinetry, casework, and/or millwork a plus.
