Leidos Defense is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented problem solver to join our modeling and simulation team as an Aerospace Modeling and Simulation Engineer in Charlottesville, VA.
You will play a valuable part in developing and testing models of aerospace systems, to include air-launched weapons; ballistic missile systems; avionics; hypersonic vehicles; and guidance, navigation, and controls across a wide range of projects and programs.

You will play a valuable part in developing and testing models of aerospace systems, to include air-launched weapons; ballistic missile systems; avionics; hypersonic vehicles; and guidance, navigation, and controls across a wide range of projects and programs.
Primary Responsibilities
- Develop, integrate, and test models of aerospace systems based on provided information, research, and engineering principles.
- Document model performance against requirements.
- Document algorithm design.
- Work collaboratively with an engineering team comprised of internal and external team members.
- Interact with external stakeholders to define requirements and perform model demonstrations.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent degree from an ABET-accredited university
- Candidate must have 2 years experience. MS degree in a relevant field can be used in lieu of 2 years of experience.
- ship is required.
- Active SECRET Clearance required and eligibility to obtain/maintain TS SCI.
- Experience with 3DOF/6DOF flight models
- Experience in MATLAB/Simulink
- Experience with system level requirements
- Detailed understanding of the systems engineering process
- Demonstrates solid understanding and intuition of the functionality and interdependency of aerospace systems.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and attention to detail to communicate clearly with internal and external stakeholders.
- Organizational skills to document work and interface with team members to ensure flow of information.
- Candidate must be local to or willing to relocate to the Charlottesville, VA area.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with configuration management tools such as SVN and Git
- Experience in C or Python
- An understanding of basic GNC algorithms
- Experience simulating ballistic missiles, air-launched missiles, and/or hypersonic vehicles
