Description

Join Leidos as a Junior Transport Network Engineer and play a crucial role in supporting the NMCI / SMIT program. You will engage in network engineering efforts that encompass planning, designing, and evaluating various components of the Navy's NMCI network. As part of the Service Management, Integration, and Transport team, you will help deliver the backbone of the Navy-Marine Corps Intranet, focusing on cybersecurity, network operations, service desk, and data transport. This is your opportunity to contribute to unifying shore-based networks and enhancing service while aiming for budget efficiencies.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Monitor events and incidents affecting Network Transport, documenting outage information and responding as needed.
  • Work with the Current Operations Watch team to oversee WLAN, LAN, and WAN services critical to daily missions.
  • Utilize excellent verbal and written communication skills to report incidents to leadership.
  • Create trouble tickets for incidents reported through monitoring tools or by users.
  • Perform initial assessments of incidents and triage based on their criticality and impact.
  • Facilitate escalation to higher support tiers when necessary.
  • Collaborate with outside vendors and WAN / BAN teams to resolve incidents.
  • Apply knowledge of Vendor products used in the network environment.
  • Support Site Operations and other organizations with problem-solving and independent decision-making.
  • Ensure a swift response (within 5 minutes) to critical network infrastructure alerts.
  • Keep the Critical Situation Manager informed about significant events or incidents.

Basic Qualifications

  • 1-2 years of relevant experience or training.
  • US Citizen with a DoD Secret Clearance.
  • DoD 8570.01 IAT Level II Certification, such as CompTIA Security CE or Cisco CCNA Security, is required before onboarding.
  • Familiarity with ITIL best practices (ITIL Foundations).
  • Experience with enterprise-level Event Management and SNMP-based network monitoring tools.
  • Understanding of customer communication within a DOD environment.
  • Background in a data center environment.
  • Knowledge of Network WAN and LAN Transport technologies, including MPLS and Routing Protocols.
  • Ability to maintain composure under pressure while assisting end users.
  • Hands-on experience with DoD networks, including NIPR and SIPR.
  • Willingness to perform shift work as needed.
  • Schedule : Wednesday - Friday every other Saturday 1700 to 0500 EDT.

    Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior military experience, particularly in the USMC or USN IT sectors, is a plus.
  • Experience with networking technologies and data centers.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to draft detailed technical reports.
  • An entrepreneurial mindset with a passion for improvement and innovation.
  • Ability to define program goals and roadmaps aligned with customer needs.
  • Proven capability to work effectively in a matrix organization.
  • Self-motivated with strong communication skills and problem-solving capabilities.
  • The typical hourly range for this position is $25.00 / hour - $30.00 / hour. Salary will be determined based on education, experience, skills, and internal equity.

    Location : Position requires work at specified Leidos sites.
