Leidos is seeking a skilled Legal Assistant to support the United States Attorney's Office (USAO) in Maryland. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to significant legal projects within the district.
Primary Responsibilities and Duties
Provide diverse legal assistance and technical expertise, facilitating various legal activities.
Engage with legal instruments and documents, ensuring accurate handling of legal actions and information pertinent to USAO activities.
Manage litigative cases by preparing organized exhibits, including statistical charts and photographs, and identify any gaps in case materials or documentation.
Act as a liaison for assigned cases, offering insights on status and relevant procedural matters.
Compile and organize discovery and evidence exhibits for trials, working closely with attorneys for efficient arrangement.
Prepare and present timely legal documents, information, and exhibits during court proceedings.
Coordinate the production of trial exhibits such as charts, diagrams, and models, ensuring they are ready by trial dates.
Maintain comprehensive accounting systems for materials related to grand jury proceedings and trials, keeping detailed records of exhibit usage.
Support assigned AUSAs with various administrative tasks, including automation support and organizational duties.
Utilize established databases for effective data searches and report creation.
Manage case files from opening to closure, including notifying client agencies and organizing relevant litigation reports.
Track case receipt and deadlines using databases while keeping attorneys informed of progress.
Ensure easy accessibility and organization of physical case files for efficient retrieval.
Timely close case files and manage document archives by purging unnecessary materials.
Prepare an array of legal documents, such as subpoenas and transmittals, for attorney review before filing.
Oversee AUSAs' calendars and schedule necessary events including court reporters and witness interviews.
Field outside inquiries appropriately while maintaining professionalism and confidentiality.
The hourly pay for this position is $23.41.
Basic Qualifications :
A paralegal certificate, JD, or enrollment in an ABA-accredited law school with at least one year of study is required.
Minimum of one year of litigation paralegal experience.
Strong written and communication skills are essential.
Basic legal knowledge, including citation skills for checking legal motions and familiarity with research tools like LEXIS and Westlaw is necessary.
Proficient in various computer applications such as word processing, databases, and spreadsheets.
Basic understanding of ESI tools and eDiscovery processes is preferred.
Ability to perform under pressure while maintaining high-quality work is crucial.
Must be a U.S. Citizen eligible for Public Trust clearance.
Preferred Qualifications :
Experience in a Government or Litigation Support setting.
Exceptional analytical, organizational, and writing skills.
Possession of a paralegal certificate or JD is advantageous.
At least one year of litigation paralegal experience is preferable.
This position is subject to the Service Contract Act, adhering to minimum wage and Health and Welfare benefits requirements. The hourly pay for this position is $23.41.
