Leidos is on the lookout for a proactive Material Handling Specialist to become part of our dynamic team, supporting our operations at the Port Hueneme facility. Your role will be pivotal in the shipping and receiving of materials destined for Antarctica. The ideal candidate must be physically fit, able to stand for shifts, and repeatedly lift, push, or pull items weighing up to 50 pounds. Flexibility for various physical tasks such as bending, stooping, kneeling, and pivoting is essential. A valid forklift operator certification is a must.
Expected pay range for this position is $23 - $28 per hour.
Important Information : U.S. Citizenship is required due to contract stipulations, and you must be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust security clearance. Not meeting these requirements may lead to withdrawal of the employment offer or other actions.
About the Antarctic Support Contract :
Leidos serves as the prime contractor for the National Science Foundation (NSF) under the Antarctic Support Contract, supporting the United States Antarctic Program (USAP). Our mission aligns with the NSF's goals : to enhance scientific endeavors in Antarctica through logistical excellence and to uphold a strong U.S. presence on the continent.
Leidos sculpts science and logistical support for about 150 scientific events across several remote research stations, including McMurdo Station, Palmer Station, South Pole Station, and various deep field sites. Our planning and execution of science support tasks are crucial for success in Antarctica.
Your Main Responsibilities :
- Coordinate the shipping and receiving of inbound and outbound materials or cargo from multiple customers / suppliers promptly.
- Verify shipment contents to ensure accurate delivery of requested material.
- Package materials according to type and carrier requirements, preparing cargo for loading into shipping containers, commercial vehicles, or onto Air Force pallets.
- Operative powered and non-powered material handling equipment efficiently.
- Update the cargo tracking system consistently after identifying and packing material or cargo.
- Stage materials or cargo in designated waiting areas before transport via commercial air or surface.
- Communicate and collaborate effectively with the Material Expediting and Documentation teams.
- Adhere to safety standards and practices to foster a culture of safety awareness among colleagues.
