What are the responsibilities and job description for the Student Assistant Professional (SAP) position at Leland and Gray Union Middle/High?
Windham Central Supervisory Union (WCSU) is seeking a Student Assistance Professional (SAP) for 37.5 hours per week. This is a school-based position working with Leland and Gray Union Middle/High School students in Grades 6-12 for the 2025-2026 school year.
Job Summary: The SAP has primary responsibility to provide substance abuse education and support to students. The SAP will be responsible for identifying and providing assistance to students with substance abuse issues at the school. This individual will also provide substance abuse prevention education to both Leland and Gray students and elementary students in the Windham Central Supervisory Union. The SAP is a WCSU staff person who will be based at Leland and Gray.
Reports to: Principal
Responsibilities:
- Attend required trainings regarding substance abuse prevention and use of the CRAFFT and GAIN screening tools
- Provide intervention and screening to students identified as having substance abuse issues.
- Develop and maintain relationships with appropriate outside agencies.
- Make effective internal and external referrals for students with substance abuse issues to community agencies for more specialized or intensive services as needed.
- Provide case management and aftercare services to students going to and returning from treatment.
- Meet with concerned families and work with students and their parents/guardians where services are needed.
- Maintain client confidentiality as required by federal law in 42 CFR Part 2 as amended.
- Attend supervision on a monthly basis with a licensed clinician.
- Attend weekly meetings with counseling office
- Participate in the School Health Action Committee (SHAC) and attend SHAC meetings four times per year.
- Establish safe and supportive relationships with students and maintain a consistent presence in the school.
- Plan and facilitate substance abuse prevention education presentations for Leland and Gray middle and high school health classes and also for elementary school students in the Windham Central Supervisory Union.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field or commensurate experience.
- At least three years of experience in a school support staff position or a related position.
- Experience in youth substance abuse prevention education and/or counseling preferred.
