What are the responsibilities and job description for the District Nurse position at Lemon Grove School District?
Definition:
Under the Supervision of the Director of Student Services, coordinates the health service program at assigned schools; assesses, evaluates, improves and promotes the health of students and staff in accordance with State Law and District policies and regulations.
Typical Duties:
• Completes all mandated screenings and reports annually within timelines required by state agencies.
• Conducts medical case finding, screening, and referral activities related to health needs of selected students.
• Participates as a member of the School Site Team to address the health related needs of students.
• Refers parents of students needing medical care to appropriate private or community resources.
• Coordinates the implementation of the District's communicable disease prevention program.
• Coordinates, monitors and facilitates the maintenance of health and immunization records for each student.
• Provides general health counseling services to parents, students and staff.
• Informs staff of physical or health needs of students.
• Provides emergency health services for ill or injured students and staff.
• Communicates with parents and other health care professionals regarding illness and health concerns which may affect students learning and achievement.
• Serves as a health education resource person to students and staff and teaches health related subjects (i.e. social hygiene and family life education at designated grade level) under supervision of a classroom teacher.
• Conducts or coordinates the implementation of health - related in-service activities and screenings including, but not limited to, Universal Precautions, First Aid, C.P.R., T.B., and Specialized Physical Health Care procedures for school and district staff.
• Participates in on-going professional development through District, regional or state sponsored activities.
• Assists other health care professionals in the delivery of health services to students and parents.
• Coordinates distribution of first-aid kits to classrooms.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
Baccalaureate or higher degree from a regionally accredited college or university; two years of successful experience as a School Nurse desirable and/or successful Registered Nurse experience in a hospital, clinic or physician's office with school age population.
Licenses and Other Requirements:
Possession of a Preliminary School Nurse Credential or a Professional Clear School Nurse Credential, Possession of a valid Registered Nurse license issued by the State of California. Certification to conduct vision and audiometric assessments. Valid California Driver's license.
