CUSTODIAN
JOB DESCRIPTION
Under direct supervision of the Lead Custodian, Maintenance/Operations Supervisor and the Principal(s) to perform routine cleaning work in school, office and/or other buildings of the district.
PRIMARY DUTIES
Confers with supervisors regarding care and cleaning programs at a school plant, sees that rooms are set up for special events and needs; reports needed repair work to supervisors; performs minor repairs and adjustments to building fixtures and equipment. Checks lights, air conditioners/heaters; sweeps, scrubs, mops, waxes and refinishes floors, including gymnasium. Washes windows, cleans walls, sidewalks, furniture, woodwork, maintains bathrooms in a clean and sanitary condition, and cleans computers and other equipment. Inspects buildings for fire, sanitary and safety hazards; safeguards school property. Keeps inventory of supplies and recommends purchase of supplies, if needed, and prepares reports as directed. Recommends purchase of supplies and equipment. May be required to perform miscellaneous work as directed when school is not in session. Helps secure and move equipment from events at their completion. Stays current with safety training and hazardous substance handling, as provided by the SB 198 Coordinator. Follows directions listed on MSDS sheet as provided by the supervisor. Immediately reports any on the job injury to the supervisor and assists in the completion appropriate paperwork. May be required to operate a pick-up truck or other small transport vehicles (green machines).
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Works under the direct supervision of the Lead Custodian, the Maintenance and Operations Supervisor, the Principal and the District Office
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
Should possess personal characteristics generally recognized as essential for good public employees, including integrity, initiative, dependability, courtesy, good judgement, and ability to work cooperatively with others. Represent and support the District in conversation with the public.
Education: Completion of the 12th grade or its equivalent
Experience:One year of custodial experience preferred.
Knowledge:Methods, materials and equipment used in custodial work and required to maintain school buildings in a safe, clean and orderly condition.
Ability:To use cleaning materials safely and operate equipment with skill and efficiency; to use tools in performing minor repairs and adjustments, to operate heating and cooling thermostats, perform manual labor, able to lift at least 40 pounds and follows written and verbal orders.
Salary : $22 - $28
